Lorie's Story

Life Looking for me -look me up on Facebook along with others from our classmates. After GCHS graduation in 1987 I left Snow Hill, but return a couple times a year for brief visits. :-) I spent the summer in VA and started Elizabeth City State University that fall where I graduated in 1991 and then moved to Boston, MA for a new adventure the following day where I lived until early 2006; when we (my husband and I) finally got tired of the cold weather of New England and moved back home to Norfolk, VA area about 2.5 hrs from S. H. & 40 mtes from EC - a good combo of big city and small town USA). :-D I am still very happily married to Will (11 yrs and still going & newlyweds -one of my greatest blessings) and am busy in our community (VP of United Civic League of Cavalier Manor) and our church (New Mount Vernon Baptist Church). Will (Willie Jones) graduated from Hyde Park High School in MA in 1984 (is looking for old friends so email him thru here). We have no children of our own, but have plenty in our lives with 2 God daughters, 3 God sons and a couple of rental kids :-D. We also have 2 cocker-poodles (not too small or big...Just the right size...less mess. We are Truly Blessed and trying to enjoy life to the fullest. We are looking to reconnect with old friends, classmates and/or their families that can assist in the connection. To connect with us checkout Facebook, myspace (JWL R Blessed & Highly Favored) and/or jwl1358 on microsoft network communication (got it). We hope to hear from you. School Good times at GCHS. Now most of you know my grandma was TUFF & Didn't Play...most of all that knew/know her can recall a scared moment. :-) Though I didn't appreciate it then I've told and showed her since becoming an adult how much I do because what she and my mother did molded me into the Strong, Black Woman I am today. Thanks to Ms. Farrow, Ms. Yancey and Ms. Golden for expanding on my cooking skills from my Gran's kitchen by teaching us new things (cake decorating, sewing and hosting parties). Ms. Golden was my escape from Gran's jail by allowing me to attend games to setup for hospitality table for visiting teams, school events and to sneak moments with you know who. College FSU alma mater was ...Expand for more
my aunt, LaRonee "Ronee" Class of 85 (AKA & Psychology Club). See her amongst my pics. and leave a message for her if you know her so she can check it out. Thanks My college days at ECSU were GREAT...FREEDOM!!! My first year away from home was like being released from jail... I stayed in the Student Center more than I did the classroom my first semester. I was known as the Spades Queen... especially when my partners were "OJ" & "T" we beat the fellas down (you know who you are) or my smack down partner Kenny W. (KVW). I also learned how to play pool (have p. table in my house now...giving my husband a good run):-) I joined a social organization "Cinq Psi Frais sisters of Tri Kuppa Bru (created on Livingstone College campus). :-) There are some things that I look back on and Say! Child What Were You Thinking...1 was showing out to the fellas that I could hold my own ...Chug down a big gulp of some hot Everclear on the steps of the music bldg, but they didn't see me toss it up later.;-D However, my most memorable times were my days in ECSU Gospel Choir...GC :-) The Lord truly BLESSED ME!!! I accepted Christ in my life. Now, I was young so I was still learning so I wasn't true to him or myself and straddled the fence but the Lord saw me through. We gave the Lord all the praise and shared his light and joy through song and with GREAT Friends (Onnya "OJ", Ronnie "Poopie", Curtis "Boo-Boo" Terrell "Preacher Man/Broom Hilda", Chauncey "Candy Man",Kelby "Dr. Dr. I need a Dr", Greg B., Tim McCray, Letitia D "T" (my sista), Tara Howard (wherever you are) and many, many more (especially the Sopranos. :-) Remember our first GC trip to NY - Country Bunkin checking out the Big Apple and was bumped by a New Yorker in the middle of Time Sq. and became known as Time Stopper and the water fights in Womack hall or in the Complex. Now since being back in VA I have joined the Portsmouth Alumni Chapter and hope to see ya at ECSU Homecoming this year or other events. :-) While in Massachusetts I completed a Graduate level Certificate Program in July 2005 thru Massachusetts Council for Human Service Providers and Suffolk University Center for Public Management in Community Human Service Management. Many Blessings to all.
