Louella's Story

After college and marriage, I lived in Colorado and Japan with my husband who was in the Air Force. In 1965 we moved to Garland, Texas, then Denison, Marshall, and Sherman where we stayed for 13 years. In 1981 my husband took a research position in Massachusetts and we ended up staying there for 20 years. The first ten years were great (except for all the snow shoveling), but the last few years we just wanted to get back to Texas. We have three children. Our son lives in Massachusetts with his wife and daughter. Our older daughter lives in South Carolina with her husband and three children. Our younger daughter lives with us with her two daughters. op students and involved in a number of activities. My husband is involved in historic preservation, and I support his activities whenever needed. My personal hobbies are genealogy, needlecrafts, and reading when I can spare time after taking care of the rest of the family. We love being back in Texas, although far East Texas puts us some distance from the rest of my family in north central Texas. My father is still living at age 92 so I make trips to check on him periodically. We also help two of my husband's aged aunts with whatever they need. We are the "sandwich generation" -- taking care of the generation before us and the one after at the same time. Our retirement years are not what we had expected, but good nevertheless!
