Louis's Story

Geez, Where to start, I left home at 16 and drifted around a bit. Ended up in Villa Park after the mental hospital, the Bahas and a Christian group home out in Rockford Illinois. I bit a raisin in half and stuck the two bits on jesus's eyes on the big portrait of him over the mantel at the group home, He looked like he was on acid. They did not appreciate my alterations. I was going to Rockford East H.S. and it was a trip, mostly black and poor whites from the impoverished east side of town. The black kids were cool and loved my Mohawk or pseudo Mohawk, I only had trouble with the white kids really. One dumb freak kept hassling me and I knew from past experience that it would be necessary to fight him at some point to maintain some dignity. I started hanging out with the black criminal element and smoking newports. I would ride my 10 speed across the river to go to the black record store there. I bought the tom tom club and parliament records with the meager earnings from my work program job. There was an influx of boat people during this time in the 80s. There were many here in Rockford and we saw them about town. One day there was a group of Vietnamese or Cambodian boys throwing rocks at squirrels in a tree across the street from the home. We told them to cut it out and the one kid said in broken english "din-nar". We never even thought of eating urban squirrels and left them alone to hunt. uc By a long strange chain of eyents, one of the friends that I met there's Mom and Dad ended up moving here to Floyd County and now she is a born again hippy tart,lol.. ooked him up with one of my girlfriends' friends and now she has eaten his soul, he is enmeshed as if a spider's web. They drink beer, fish, and fk on the weekends, lol Anyway, I developed a system in Glen Ellyn for obtaining food from dumpsters, Mc Donald's was quite rigid and threw out all the food under the heat lamp at precisely 11 o'clock. One garbage bag held fryer waste and would be hot to the touch, the other bag would be warm and had several hamburgers, fries and hot apple pies in there. Church's chicken would throw out entire 24 piece dinners preboxed with side dishes in little styrofoam containers. I ate pretty well and at various points other's would dine there as well. You had to be neat and careful not to alert the staff. At one point they realized that we were dining out so to speak and began to pour cleaning fluid all over the food before putting it in the dumpster. Eventually I started staying in Halgren's car, he wasn't supposed to have bought it and he was parking it away from his house to hide it from his dad. I got a job in a printing shop out in Addison and used to ride my skateboard out there, using a wind up alarm to wake up on time. It was pretty cold sometimes but I was making it, and I had no bills so I always had plenty of cash to get f up or go see a band. I stayed at the printing shop for three years and worked my way up to being a well paid bindary worker. I liked the factory work, there were funny people there that I liked. I immediately hit it off with this older punk guy that lived in Bloomingdale and he worked in the graphics department. He threw great parties, was into twisted movies and art and was very creative.
