Louisa's Story
It seems like yesterday. Growing up in Woodside, NY and attending St. Sebastian's School was an experience. We were some of the new comers to Woodside from a different borough (Bronx). Italian descendants in a mostly Irish neighborhood. I attended Mater Christi HS in 1971 until 1975. I started driving to school when I was 15 years old with a Jr. Driverâs license because I hated riding the subway. Our skirts were very short and there were too many men on the train who tried to get very close to us standing like packed sardines on the train during rush hours. I loved my 6-7-8 grade time at St. Sebastianâs and four years at Mater Christi. I miss everyone. I wish I had kept up with many of you. l the world. I did lots of it working for an airline at LaGuardia. I met my husband in 1979, we married in 1981 and moved to Southern California. We had two boys and moved one more time. We have been in the Houston area of Texas since 1991. Both boys went to Austin. My oldest graduated UT and is living and working in Hollywood, CA. My youngest is now in the Navy in the Nuclear program. He is married with a beautiful baby girl who is 18 months old. He might finish up his graduate at UT also. At least that is his plan. Who would have thought such an Italian from Woodside would leave the âhoodâ do so much traveling. Then to top it off â end up in Texas. Hope we meet someday in Queens. Mom still lives there, so I do go back pretty often to see her.
