Louvenia's Story

Life BORN AND RAISED IN A SMALL TOWN. THE THIRD CHILD AND DAUGHTER TO MRS LOUVENIA BRADWELL AND LEWIS BRADWELL. TWO BEAUTIFUL OLDER SISTERS MARIONETTE BRADWELL AND JOANN. LIVED ON EXPERIMENT STATION ROAD WITHOUT A MALE. HA! HA! ENJOYED PLAYING WITH A NEIGBORHOOD FULL OF GIRLS AND BOYS OF GREAT IMPORTANCE. RAISED BY THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY OF GADSDEN COUNTY. BORN INTO THE BAPTIST CHURCH AND SPENT MOST OF MY TIME AT CARTER PARRAMORE HIGH SCHOOL AS A CHEERLEADER. AFTER RIDING THE BUS WITH A LOAD OF FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND WINNING EVERY GAME I GRADUATED IN 1970. CONTINUED MY EDUCATION AT LIVELY COMMUNITY COLLEGE AS A PRATICAL NURSE. IN THE YEAR OF 1972 I GAVE BIRTH TO A BEAUTIFUL BOUNCY GIRL, MARRIED AND MOVED TO MIAMI FLORIDA WITH A SMART MAN. LATER DECIDED TO RELOCATE TO TALLAHASSEE AND CONTINUE EDUCATION AT FLORIDA A&M IN EDUCATION... MARRIED A HANDSOME AND RESPONSIBLE GUY AND LATER ADDED TWO BEAUTIFUL BOYS TO THE FAMILY. GRADUATED FROM FLORIDA A&M IN 1989 AND CHANGED CAREER FROM ACCOUNTING (CITY OF TALLAHASSEE) TO GADSDEN COUNTY SCHOOLS. NOW SINGLE, FREE AND LIVING IN MARYLAND. A TEACHER IN ELEMENTARY EDUCATION, HOME OWNER, SINGLE LADY AND LIVING THE LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Now it is March 2007 and I decided once again to increase the desires of my life and move to Atlanta, Ga. Here I felt would be a great place to be. First, my lovely and only daughter with two grands are here and my baby boy and his family is here. My oldest son is in Florida and there! We are all closer in distant. Besides, I am half way to the North and South. Ha! My sisters on one end and my immediate family on the other - Now I can have my icecream and cake at the same time. Ha! The Lord blessed me to use my proceeds from the sale of a second home to purchase a brand new and much bigger home for the dollar. Although I miss my home in Maryland. I sold it and wish I had kept it for my own. Is that selfish? It is my belief that the Lord intended for this to be the way it is. I had thought I would teach back home and commute, but that didn't quite turn out to be as expected. So, I am still moving on in the way that I am led. Life here in Atlanta has been a blessing and I am enjoying all there is. I see my sisters, mother, children, nieces and nephews as often as anyone suppose - I suppose! I visited Washington, DC this Christmas of 2006 and stayed the entire winter break that the county gave teachers for the holiday break. I enjoyed being with my sisters and their families along with the thrill of seeing my mother Katherine from Florida. We also visited with a friend from Florida in Virginia Beach on the day before New Year! We had a splendid time! I love the Chocolate City - Atlanta, Ga! I miss the Northern Hospitality. It's much more greater than the Southern Hospitality! I could tell the difference immediately and especially upon my visiting what was last thought to be my home Quincy! There are some people who need to be reminded of what graciousness and mercy mean. There are some people in Quincy who are still living in the dark ages. I came to understand since my visit home that the people I encountered are just ordinary people. Don't misunderstand me. I am not speaking of people like the Duponts (quite lovely) the Tennells (most beautiful) or the James (honest and kind) but those who I interviewed with at a certain school. I just pray for the ignorancy of others. Quincy is a lovely place to remember and most of all the lovely and wonderful people from the earliest of 1956 through 1975 school year. Hooray for the days of the old!!!!!!!!! School I biggest crush was Reginald Bryant! What a big mistake! The teacher that inspired me the most was Mr. White (deceased). Most of us loved him. Another was Mr. Caldwell. Most of us loved him also. The funniest my very own Laura Johnson, "Pop" Forest Dudley and Cynthia Dianne Dudley-Lockwood. The happiest - Judiette Fisher and the craziest was Laura, Cynthia and me. There it is!!!!! One day at school we were suppose to be in P.E. Somehow we ended up at the back door of Carter Parramore Cafeteria. I can't remember our lunch room manager's name (I am getting o-o-l-d) Oh! Mr. Rowley something like that. He and others were cleaning up the cafeteria when we saw a bunch of bananas just laying on the tables. Dianne Graham was standing near the door with a mop swinging back and forth over the floor not noticing us creeping through the back door. We took about four bananas each and ran as fast as we could to the football field and hid inside those seem like millions of bamboo sticks and we sat there the entire time eating bananas and peeking through the bamboo sticks at the football players and band members practicing. When we had finished eating the bananas and leaving our banana peels behind, we crepted into the gym through the girls back door locker room just in time for the bell to ring. Coach Holt came inside the locker room and asked us to report to Mr. Bryant. He had told Mr. Bryant that he saw us when we ran inside the bamboo sticks, but when he sent someone to the office to get Mr. Bryant in order for him to catch us, we had finished eating the bananas and were gone. We ended up in Mr. Bryant office and their he asked us if we thought we were "Monkeys" We looked and him and at each others and said "No" we are not monkeys. We were just hungry. He said, " This will teach you three not to pull any tricks like that again" then he gave each one of us two licks on the back of our legs. Laura didn't cry, but Cyn and I cried. We went down the hall and laugh about it and the very next day we went to the gym and started all over again...... College FAMU WAS JUST HOME AWAY FROM HOME FOR ME! I WAS ALWAYS AFRAID OF WALKING ON THE SET BECAUSE OF "BO BRYANT'! I FELT LIKE MELTING WHENEVER I WOULD SEE HIM. I MISS ALL THE EXCITEMENT OF THE FOOTBALL GAMES AND THE CONCERTS. REMEMBER THE TIME WHEN CURTIS MAYFIELD CAME TO FAMU FOR ONE OF THE HOMECOMINGS. BOY! I HAD A TIME OF MY LIFE WITH TERRY BRADLEY. I END UP BREAKING MY GLASS HILLS ON MY SHOES!!!!!!! THOSE SHOES HAD TO HAVE HAD Heels THAT WERE 4 INCHES!!!!!!!!! WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THAT GAY GUY THAT CROSS DRESSED? WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE 100 MARCHING BAND! I HAD ONE SMART PSYCOLOGY TEACHER NAME DR. BROWN THAT MADE MY HEART FLUTTER EACH TIME I STEPPED INTO HIS CLASS. OH! DID I HAVE ONE CRUSH ON DR. AUBREY LONG!!! I MADE SURE I ATTENDED HIS CLASSES. HE COULD HAVE BEEN MY INSTRUCTOR FOR EVERY SCHEDULED CLASS. (ISN'T THAT A BIT MUCH?) TELL ME WHAT GIRL DIDN'T HAVE A CRUSH ON HIS OR HER TEACHER (SMILE). I REALLY ENJOYED THE STUDENT TEACHING AT FAMU HIGH! THE FAMILY(STAFF MEMBERS) AT FAMU WERE AWESOME. MRS JOHNSON IN THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT HAD THE ATTITUDE OF AN ANGEL. SHE HAD TO HAVE BEEN A BLESSING FROM ABOVE. THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT JUST COULDN'T HAVE FUNCTIONED WITHOUT HAVING HER! DR. LANG WAS ALSO THE BEST YET TO COME! SHE WAS ONE OF MY BIGGEST INSPIRATION AND I ENJOYED THE MEMORIES OF HAVING HER AS MY INSTRUCTOR. I REALLY ENJOYED ALL THE DAYS OF ATTENDING FAMU AND IF I HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN IT WOULD STILL BE FAMU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Workplace I have been many places and done many things. My mos...Expand for more
t memorable experience would be all of my jobs. I worked as a practical nurse at Tallahassee Memorial and in the emergency room in Miami. I worked at FAMU, City of Tallahassee, Havana Elementary in Gadsden Schools, Georgia Public Schools, Maryland and DC. I have also had the experience of working summer programs with The Gadsden County ARC MR population. Supervised and manage several group homes within the MR population. Now I am teaching in Georgia and missed the m-o-o-n-e-y! Thinking about moving back North to be with my sisters and keeping my home in Georgia to retire. Military Once I almost enlisted into the military. My husband Terry Bradley and I went down to join the military in Tallahassee. What stopped us? The recruiters were not there. We should have gone(smile) I would have loved it. I always wanted to be a people person when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. I always wanted to be a movie star when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a awesome idea. As it turns out, they were right on the dollar..... If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a good attitude, sound mind , and the patience to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I do have a hero....matter of fact....several heros. My grand father "Daddy Lewis" My grandmother "Mrs Hun" my extended aunts and uncles of highbridge and Bradwell quarters such as "Aunt Jensy" "Uncle John Albert" "Aunt Ora D Green" "Uncle Green" "Aunt Gertude of Havana" "Aunt Rutha Mae/Her sister" of Bradwell Quarters, Cousin Mary Alice Bradwell, Mr and Mrs Bryant of CP and Gadsden, My In Law's "The Honorable Mr and Mrs Bradley" "Beverly Bradley" "Cynt Lockwood" "Emma/Vida Davis" "Mrs Ola Mae Davis" "Mr and Mrs Woodberry/there daughter"Jerry", "Marion and Thelma Brown" "Maurine Branch" "Pauline Tennell/Clarence,Freddy, Emmett, Pat/Barbara Tennell" "Patricia Brown and Her Husband" "Mary Alice Bush/Odell" "My classmates, Jackie(cousin) Judiette F., Juliette Martin/Freddie, Mary Brewington/Molly, Jeweline/Pat Albritton, Betsey Thomas, Gwen Thomas and Family, "Barbara Black/and family" and all the classmates of Carter Parramore. I also admire Bettye and Reggie James of Gadsden County. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Dianne Lockwood Gwen Thomas, because they are my best friends.. "The Housewives of Atlanta" "Housewives of New York" "Housewives of New Jersey" " The Basketball Wives" "Ray,Ray and Brandy" "NewYork" "Fantasia" "Toya and Tonya" (something like that) Dogs, Cats, Birds are my favorite pets......I love my man too.....My obsessions is thinking about my fiance all the time. I just love that man......I love bedtime just to think and dream about my love ones.... If I could improve my home, I'd remodel all my floors to marble or mahogany wood and add on a large deck and swimming pool. My dream home would be complete even more...... I love that you never stop taking care of your kids. I also learn that no matter how you try to protect your children or keep them from making the same mistakes are completely out of your control....I just know I have learned to pray and keep my children close to my heart. I thank God of them everyday of my waking moments. My husband and I could not have been blessed any more than what we have......I mainly learned from my children how to really share all that you have, for tomorrow isn't promised to any of us...."I love you Bridgette, Terry and Mo".....it is nothing that my children can do or anyone else to not have the love of a "Parent". If I won $100 million, I'd give my children and siblings most of it to enjoy, then spend the rest on myself, friends, church, education and my very own schools for girls...... I always wanted to experience living in a dorm while in school. The closet I ever got to staying in a dorm was visiting my best friend Laura Johnson and living on FSU campus with my boyfriend while he worked on his Dissertation in Economics.....I also pledge AKA on FSU campus and got off line before it actually happen due to the saying "AKA" are all dizzy and dumb" What a waste? I should have never listened to some of those geeks! I enjoyed Miami Dade, FSU, and FAMU. It was always fun everywhere I would go...fun! fun! fun! My current age is a good ge. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old. I was so completely wrong...smile. I just love EDUCATION......I would really love receiving my PHD in Special Education or Early Childhood Education.....What a blessing that would be! My best friend would tell you I'm the best of friend, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as being snobbish....what a bad mistake.... Oh no...I am a lady and knows what it takes to look good...I am basically a wardrobe lady...I love my trendy and classy wear....I love shoes, bags, hats, gloves of all kind....lingerie, makeup, lipstick (ruby red), pretty nails and pedicures..you just name it....Oh and don't forget the perfumes, lotions, body satinee, bath oils, gel and most of all favorite right now is "St John's" everything....eyewear, contacts, glasses, sunglasses, and plenty of lingerie, lingerie, lingerie.....bath candles, bath aromatics everything....oh you don;t want me to go any further........ I share my home with my children or family or anyone is welcome, which I find beautiful and rewarding...... In 10 years, I hope to be married again. I'm going to get there by prayers and doing what I know best!. My oldest friend is Cynthia Dudley-Lockwood, and Gwendolyn Henry......Not Thomas...my mistake earlier......Cynt actually is my cousin and Gwen my neighborhood buddy....We just are so much alike in many ways....just beautiful people. My first job was at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where I got paid very good to live with. What I remember most about it is I loved serving the sick and waiting on others,......... Growing up with my sisters and cousins in Highbridge......I will always remember when I got my leg broken....Coming from High Bridge I got out of my Auntie Maggie Mae car a very large and big black car. The car roll back and ran over my left upper thigh. The doctor Dr. Reddick. Dr Reddick had adopted Pam and he would allow her to spend all day with me in the hosipital. Pam became my best friend. The first little while girl I would know. Dr. Reddick told Mama that a little higher she would have lost her baby....They all cried...I remained in the hospital for months with my leg hanging up in a cast....I was very mean and wanted lots of attention. I threw my glass of milk and even resulted back to using a bottle (baby bottle) I use to pull the cotton out of the cast wih my little hands...My grandmother had to cover my hands with socks to keep me from scratching....I was spoiled by Mrs. Elease Moore, and many other teachers and friend of my mother. I was only 3 years of age at the time. My leg healed remarkably stronger than strong and it has never ever given me any problems...It seems as if it never happened. For many years I wondered what became of Pam until I learned she had later been disinherited from the Reddick "Family. What sad news if this is true because Pam was a good person.
