Lowell's Story

Life Well, here it is.........My fast-approaching 45th HHS Reunion this coming July 8, and 9, 2006, in Huron. I still think often of my Huron High School Days with fond memories. Occasionally I'll have a phone conversation with one of my high school buddies and bring up different things that took place at HHS. We'll laugh and have a good 'ol time talking about the past. It's fun to stop and reflect about the many people that have been in contact with your life and to wonder where many of those folks are today. I've always enjoyed going back to South Dakota and just talking with and enjoying being in the presence of good old friends. After I graduated from college I taught Band and Chorus for 4 years and than got out of teaching and started my own Real Estate Company in Huron. (Incidentally, to supplement my income, a family friend of my Dad's hired me as an Apprentice Embalmer for 3 years in a Funeral Home while I was in Huron. That's a story in itself. Ask me about it sometime.) I was in Real Estate in Huron for 5 years and than my wife, our 5 kids and I moved to the Washington, DC, area where I joined the U.S. Army Band at Ft. Myer, VA. and perfomed and travelled extensively with the U.S. Army Blues Jazz Band. While in the Arm...Expand for more
y we lived in the DC suburb of Annandale, VA. After my retirement from the Army and after all 5 kids graduated from college, got married and moved away, my wife and I moved outside the Capital Beltway to Fairfax Station, VA. (another DC suburb.) When we moved to Fairfax Station it was in the country. Now we, too, have a morning and evening rush hour. I've been a full-time Real Estate Broker since Army retirement until January 2005. I still sell a little, but most of my time is just trying to enjoy life. We have a house in Hill City, SD, in the Black Hills and it's a great relief to spend time there and just 'get slow'... When we're back in Virginia we try to keep in contact with our 10 grandkids, of which only 2 live in the DC area. The other grandkids live in Connecticut, Tennessee and South Carolina. I've toyed with the idea of permanently moving back to the Black Hills. The only real barrier is not being near all the grandkids that are all on the East Coast. Now that we seem to be moving into the next era of our life I think it's time to try to renew old acquaintances and just try to enjoy life. Just remember......"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room." Here's looking at you!!! Lowell
