Lucille's Story
I think Danny Geribo summed it all up when we met to plan our 40th reunion in the summer of 2000.
He asked me what I was doing and I said, " I'm teaching music at Saint Mary of the Annunciation School in Danvers. Dan responded, "You haven't gone far, have you?" Those words ring true!
I knew at an early age that I wanted to work with children, marry, raise a family and be involved with children, grandchildren and extended family. That is exactly how the journey has evolved.
After graduation I followed Sister Therese Julie to Emmanuel College where she had started a music department. She had imported some of the faculty she knew from BU where she had finished up her doctorate in Music. After graduation in 1965 I taught music in the Stoneham Public Schools, kindergarten through high school.
David and I got married in 1966 and two years later our first child was born. We had two more children and I was home for eighteen years bringing up kids, teaching piano and volunteering in North Reading programs.
When my youngest went to school I began teaching at Saint Augustine's School in Andover. For three summers...Expand for more
I worked on getting my Orff-Schulwerk Certificate at U Mass Lowell. While the kids were in college I was working at St Augustine's and then at Saint Mary's.
After many happy years of Concert Choirs, Christmas Pageants, Spring Musicals, School Plays and Recorder Concerts I retired in 2009.
Recently I was talking to James O'Neill and he asked me what I did that was exciting. I told him that I get excited playing Monopoly with my 5 year old grandson, playing music on the piano, holding the newborn grandson, flying to California to visit my son and his family, and just plain life in general. His comment: " You live a very quiet life." True! Quiet and Happy...
The latest bit of excitement in my life has been getting emails and phone calls from classmates we hadn't been able to locate. This week I heard from Dolores McCarthy, Paula Russo, James O'Neill and Ralph Lyons. As we plan for our 50th reunion next November 26 I find it exciting to meet with the planning committee and to reconnect with those wonderful years of our youth.
I am looking forward to seeing many of our classmates at the reunion in November.
