Luke's Story
After graduating from Helix High, I went on to Grossmont College and was awarded an A. A. degree in General Education with an emphasis in Humanities; soon thereafter, I transferred to San Diego State but never finished. During the 70’s, jobs were waitering at a Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlor, making pizza at a Shakey’s Pizza, cutting cheeses at a Swiss Colony, frying burgers at a Jack-in-the-Box, shelving books at both the Grossmont College library and San Diego State (Malcolm Love) library, selling books at a B. Dalton bookstore, selling recreational merchandise at a Toys “R” Us, and doing janitor/maintenance work at a Nordstrom’s department store.
A postal exam was taken and I scored very well on it. Has this been my calling all along ? I am now retired after working 28 years at the U.S. Postal Service !
Watching movies and reading books, especially when it contains time travel, has been my preoccupation of late. Hobbies include collecting cartoon and Pop Art. I own signed/numbered lithos of Billy Al Bengston, Allan d’ Arcangelo, Enrico Baj, Peter Blake, Derek ...Expand for more
Boshier, Jim Dine, David Hockney, Robert Indiana, Alex Katz, Marisol (Escobar), Claes Oldenburg, Ed Ramos, James Rosenquist, and Ed Ruscha. I wish to still own a Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Wayne Thiebaud, Andy Warhol and a Tom Wesselman are wants on my list....but they are rather expensive. This is what I have been accumulating since I never married to place monies elsewhere. My knowledge of Pop Art of the 60’s and 70’s is good; I like the nostalgia of those times. To diversify my art interests, I have some American Western art such as an original charcoal sketch of horses by Olaf Weighorst and a desert landscape painting by James G. Swinnerton.
I have also dabbled with composing chess problems since my over-the-board play in tournaments sanctioned by the U.S. Chess Federation (I have a life time membership) have been just so-so. Google “Luke Neyndorff Gameknot” for some chess puzzles to solve.
One(?) weird thing I did was playing a zombie in a movie called “The Evil Rises” directed by Daniel Florenzano in 2016. I actually got my name shown in the credits !
