Lu's Story
Life
No pets anymore, thank God, but I have four great kids. My oldest, Matthew, graduated with his Masters from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. He is now a Naval Officer. His first assignment was with the SEALS in VA. Can't tell you what hes' doing now, or I'd have to kill you. He recently returned from the Middle East and moved to Washington DC where he has been given the position of assistant to the Secretary of the Navy at the Pentagon. We are thinking of changing his name legally to just that.. My daughter, Emily, lives and works in Boston. She works for Houghton-Mifflin Harcourt Book Co. and has recently graduated from Emerson College with her Masters in Publishing. She has a very nice boyfriend, Jason, who is a Grant Analyst for UCLA. My son, Josh, graduated with his MBA from Ithaca College 5/09. He and his girlfriend, Megan, have gone to Portland, OR to seek their fortunes. He works for Wells Fargo Bank as a Collections Analyst. He plans to move back to the east coast in the summer. . My youngest, Sarah, graduated high school, earning the superlatives "Best Sense of Humor" and "Class Clown" (we're so proud). She graduated from Newbury College 5/10 in Brookline, MA, with her BS in Interior Design, Cum Laud. She's looking into being a Museum Curator. In the meantime, she works for Bloomingdales in Brookline. She is dating a Mexican craftsman by the name of Walfren Pina (we call him Danny). I have a great home with my husband, Mike, an engineer for Motorola. I drive a full size, long bed, 2002 Chevy pickup with vanity plates that read "LULABEL". I love remodeling, construction, decorating...I've redone just about every room in our house, including building a new staircase, attaching a raised 350sq. ft. deck, plumbed a new bathroom (after building it), and built two fireplaces. We gutted the two front bedrooms and made a huge master suite with a walk-in closet and fireplace with a mantle made from an antiqu...Expand for more
e piano. At Christmas we put over 40,000 lights on our house and in our yard, which has earned us the nickname, Candyland, in our small town. I recently join Facebook at the urging of my kids. Life is wonderful.
School
I felt pretty much invisible in high school (didn't most people feel the same?) I could have been a great student, but only did what I had to do to graduate. I wish I has been more self confident and been able to be more out-going. I had a great close knit group of friends with whom I tried to remain close over the years. However, life happens and we drifted apart.
College
I went to Buffalo State for all the wrong reasons, but mostly because it was not far from home. I chose "Early Childhood Development" as a major. I lasted three semesters, hating every moment, and finally quit in the middle of my sophomore year. I moved home to live with Mom and Dad who had moved the family to Syracuse. I got into banking...starting as a teller and ending as a 'floating' manager in Boston.
Workplace
After leaving college, I got a job at Marine Midland Bank in Syracuse. A year later I moved to Bank of New York (Customer Service) where I stayed until I married in 1981. We moved to Boston where I got a job at First National Bank of Boston as a floating manager. I stayed in banking until I became pregnant with my first baby, Matthew. After he was born, my job was mom and homemaker. Never believed in going back to work while I had kids at home. I briefly had a part time job at 7-11 in Illinois (yuck!). I did some home sewing (piece work) for Country Curtains once we moved to Chatham. Within 5 years, I had to find something different. I got a part time job at the local bookstore. After seven years I left the bookstore and worked at the Bank of America as a Sales & Service Specialist for nearly 3 years. Recently, I had the opportunity to become a partner in a small contracting company, and am now swinging a hammer once again.
