Lyle Reed:  

After graduation from Mira Loma in June 1972 I worked retail until March 1973. I enlisted in the US Navy in March 1973. I spent 13 years, 8 months and 2 days on active duty. I meet Carole Shore in 1972 and we became great friends. Carole and I were married on April 11, 1981 and yes she was/is my best friend. After discharging from active duty in November 1986 I joined California Department of Corrections as a Correctional Peace Officer. I enlisted in the US Navy Reserves in January 1987 and completed 21 years, 8 months and 2 days of total service credit in the US Navy Reserves on January 1, 1995. I transferred from US Navy Reserves to US Navy Retired Reserve List. Carole was diagnosed with relapsing/remitting Multiple Sclerosis in 1995. I retired from the California Department of Corrections on September 1, 2003. I worked private security from February 2004 until April 1, 2007. I joined Sacramento County Sheriff Department as a Sheriff’s Security Officer on April 1, 2007. Carole, my best friend and wife, passed away February 29, 2016 from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. Due to my on going health issues I retired from Sacramento County effective June 19, 2017 with a non-service related Disability Retirement. My disability: I started my adventure towards pancreatic cancer on May 25, 2016. I went to the Hospital Emergency Room because I was turning Yellow. After an Ultrasound, CT Scan, MRCP and blood work it was determined that my Common Bile Duct was totally obstructed. I was admitted to the hospital and had an ERCP with stent placement done. From May 2016 through December 2016 I was hospitalized eleven times. I had a total of nine ERCPs and a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy done. I was diagnosed with Chronic Pancreatitis late 2016 or early 2017. I had exploratory surgery with the intent to do a Whipple Procedure in June 2017.
