Lynda's Story
I have been living in Connecticut for the past 18 years and loving it. Every time we go back to California to visit family (like last week) we are shocked by how much worse the traffic, air and ambience has gotten since we moved from Orange County.
Graduated AHS in 1965 - went to UC Irvine for a couple of years then transferred to UCLA. Got married, finished BA degree at Long Beach State then became a VISTA volunteer serving in Oklahoma. After VISTA moved to Northern Kentucky to work in Public Health - returned to UCLA in 1974 to the School of Public Health. Had a baby in 1976 and got my MPH in 1977. Had another baby in 1978 - built a geodesic dome with my husband in Idyllwild, CA drove a 1930 Model A. Got divorced from husband #1 in 1980 and remarried to my current husband Paul in 1982. He was my OB/GYN.
I was an ASPO Certified childbirth educator for several years when my kids were little ones. Co founded a 501.c.3 nonprofit organization called C/BIRTH, Inc.
Had a whole career in health care management - health plans, hospitals, ambulatory services, UCI College of Medicine faculty practice group, Long Beach Memorial Heart Institute, St. Joseph Hospital in Orange Wound Care Center.
Moved to CT in 1992. Worked on the Clinton Gore campaign and met a bunch of Dems and got immediately involved in politics. Started a political action group with so...Expand for more
me women friends in CT (IMPACT) also started another 401.c.3 organization, Connecticut Coalition Against Gun Violence. Lobbied the CT General Assembly to pass a ban on assault weapons.
Got very active in politics in Fairfield County CT, ran for a seat on Fairfield's Representative Town Meeting and for the CT General Assembly 128th District.
Started a business, sold it and became a consultant for the new owner. Started singing again - joined a bunch of choirs - left health care management in 2005 and went to non profits to raise money.
Have had lots of time for travel - Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Morocco, Spain and Portugal, Peru, Ecuador (Gallapagos), China, lots of Italy trips, England, Ireland and Greece trips too. Love it all. We try to go to London for a week of theatre every March.
Became a grandmother of twin girls in 2006.
Both of my parents have died. One older brother lives with his family in San Marino, my son and grandtwins in San Diego, others in LA and Pasadena area.
We love living so close to NYC - spend a lot of time seeing plays, occassionally acting in them. Both Paul and I sing in a bunch of choirs and enjoy walking our dogs on the beach or in the woods, seeing tons of off beat movies, reading fiction. Paul's still working - chief medical officer for ConnectiCare - I do mostly volunteer work. I have a few fundraising clients.
