Lynda's Story
Hello. My friend Merlie encouraged me to "write my story", so I'm going to accept her challenge.
I was born in Illinois in 1948 and my family moved to Portland in 1950. I attended Mt. Tabor grade school through the 6th grade and then my family moved to The Dalles, Oregon. We lived there for three years and I atteded Chenowith Elementary Shcool and The Dalles Junior High. These were the happiest years of my growing up. In the summer of 1963 we moved back to Portland and I began my sophomore year at Parkrose high school. My cousin Mike Churchill was also a student there and introduced me to many of his friends. During my senior year I began dating a 1964 Parkrose gradute, Byron Branstator. We were married in 1968. In 1973 we had a daughter, who we named Heidi. Byron and I were divorced in 1992. That same year I met a wonderful man from West Linn whose name is Doug McDowell. He practiced his faith in the Lutheran tradition, which I had also done since my childhood. This was just one of many reasons he was such a blessing in my life. My religious faith in a very significant part of my life and it was mandatory that if i married again, the...Expand for more
man would share the same commitment to God. We dated for two and one half years and were married in February of 1995.
Doug closed his 25 year old commercial construction business in 2001 to devote most of his time to volunteer work. I continued to work as a medical assistant until the spring of 2005, when Doug was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. He continues to be symptom free, is very active and remains commitment to doing voluteer work. We love to travel and do so as much as we can. We especially like to be away from Oregon during the winter, when it is gray and wet here. The past two years we have spent most of the winter in Florida and have enjoyed ourselves and the great weather.
We have a total of 4 adult children, 1 single, 1 married with no children one divorces with 2 children and one married with 3 children. None of them live in Portland, so some of our travels include visiting them.
That pretty much provides a Readers Digest version of my life from birth to now.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Melva White, because she was the best girlfriend I had when I was growing up growing up.
