Lynda's Story

Wow, where to start, 50 years is a very long time, that has gone by very fast! I have 3 children, the oldest Frank, is a 4th grade teacher at Griffin. My parents, myself, Frank and his 2 daughters attended Griffin. My daughter, Kelli, is a Senior English teacher at Capital High School and has 2 daughters. My youngest son, Jim, works here at Hanford Nuclear Power Site. He is in charge of a lot of the drilling to tract ground water under the waste tanks. He has 1 son and another due at Christmas time.. I love Washington, but little did I know, there is a whole country out there! I have lived in Hawaii, 80 miles around Oahu, becomes a very confining area. Spent time in Wisconsin and a couple of years in Virginia. From there I went to a very small town in Upstate New York. I always thought that New York was all city, WRONG! The town was the Village of Corinth, 1 stop light, 2 grocery stores, 1 convenience store and more taverns than restaurants. There was only 1 of those, Jack’s Place and it was the best. Winters were long, cold and lots of snow. Our family became 3 season people, Summer, Fall and Winter. Forget Spring, way too much mud! I learned how to make Real Maple Syrup, 40 gallons of sap for 1 gallon of syrup!. The winters became not so long when you gather up the kids, a bunch of firewood, the three wheeler, sled and head to Stewarts Pond. The sand pit was a great place for sledding and the Pond worked well for skating, building a fire on the ice to warm up an...Expand for more
d eat by. Our family became lab dog lover before they were the #1 breed in the US, bred them then and still do today. In New York I really became a lover of antiques, really old antiques. And history, so much of our independence from England was won from the New England area. I took one of the things that I learned in high school and made a job out of it. I took the Tailoring Class, twice and it took me far. I was hired and did a 4 year apprenticeship at a Bridal Shop in the so small town of Corinth. People came from Albany, Saratoga and the rest of the area. From there I went to Connecticut and loved every second of it. We were right at home there and once again Summer, Fall and Winter were our favorite seasons. Sewing went with me there, Bridal Shop and then to a business from my home, having more than 40 customers. South Carolina was the next stop and horses came back into my life. My kids learned to ride and everything that goes with that life. Had a large log home there and lived on the edge of the BLM land, could ride forever and cross 1 paved road. A New England critter hitched a ride back to Washington with us, Lyme Disease. We have been in Kennewick for the last 24 years, it was time to come home. We still have a horse and Lab Dogs, Chocolate now and still breed them. My love for Antiques has never wavered, same for the Lab dogs. But most of all, is my love for family and where you come from. After al,l that is makes you who you are.
