Lynette's Story

Finished college in three years, mostly to get married. Yeah, Duane, high school sweetheart. We grew apart, sigh, and I was working on my master's when I met a vet student at MU. Married him when he graduated and I was off to NJ. Been here since 1976, one son who did manage to make me proud by graduating from KU (I voted for MU, but we really enjoyed the basketball in Lawrence!) I work with horses with my husband, which many who knew me well will find totally in character with my high school likes and dislikes. Lost both of my parents, but my sister is still in Kansas City, so I visit often. Over time, I became interested in education, finally becoming a teacher. Although I never finished that first master's degree at MU, I did earn my MEd. Teaching ESL at TCNJ in 2014. My primary content area is in biology, which isn't surprising, but I have also added elementary education, middle school specialization in both science and ELA and Literacy, content in ESL, and almost finished with SPED, Teacher of Student's with Disabilities. I currently work in a private school, working with students with ED/BD classifications. I am honored to say that my son, Devin, shared the journey to acquire the master's in ESL, and I have felt unique that mother and son both completed the journey and accomplishment. cker and a Welsh Springer Spaniel. Anyone who was ever at my house would recognize the WSS, Callan, as the same breed as our Missy from my childhood. There have been horses, a wonderful little donkey, a multitude of Jersey Wooly rabbits, a few guinea pigs, cats, and assorted other critters. I miss Raytown and the times we shared in high school. Not many of my classmates ever showed up in NJ, which leaves me in the dark about what has transpired. Although I had hoped to make the reunion in 2003, it was not meant to be. Recent correspondence with classmates has convinced me that I would go unrecognized in a crowd of my peers, so I will not be walking around peering at name tags to faces that are no more familiar than mine would be, which is my nod to aging, probably not that gracefully, and letting me remember all of you as you were the last time we laughed together and shared fond memories. Should any of you ever get to NJ, please reach out and give me a shout. Miss you all. Should anyone happen to know about Kelley Metz, I would love an update. It has been a long time since I have had any news about her, but she pops into my mind on a regular basis. I know where Phyllis is, heard Duane may be back in KC, and recently heard from James Wisely. I admit that I don't upgrade my profile on this site, but I am easy to find on Linkedin, should anyone want to reach out and say hi!
