Lynn Schwartz's Story
UPDATE MARCH 2020: Feeling isolated, sheltering at home, in the rain today, and hoping to find someone from our class interested in being a SCUBA buddy for a trip this June to Wakatobi and another in September to Fiji. Lost my regular buddy to a physical impediment, and though I already did a trip to Roatan as a solo, really prefer having a partner!
Anybody, anybody? ANYBODY????
So, my story for today... I'm living between El Dorado Hills and N. Lake Tahoe, running like crazy between the two. I moved to the lake in 1994 , from Pleasanton, where I taught school (Fremont). I thought it would be for a one year leave,,, It turned into retirement! Then in 2006, with the appearance of a grand-daughter I moved to my home in EDH. I'm <10 minutes from my 2 daughters, still 2 hours from the cabin.
I rent out the cabin from vrbo.com (#154255) and still use it for a family vacation- get-away place. Have spent lots of time getting to know Mexico, now speak passable (understood by Mexicans) Spanish, though it has taken years to forget the French I learned from Mme Stoner, (What a silly girl I was to think French was a better investment of my time.... It got me all over Europe, but it doesn't do much with the gardeners, restaurant workers, and other helpful folks I come in contact with daily.)
My mom died in Jan. 2015 and the house will probably go on the market sometime in the next year. It is probably a tear down as are many of the oldies but goodies in Arcadia and her angel from Chiapas, Mexico (another good reason to speak Spanish.... She has been my best teacher too!) has moved up here to be close to her new family... me. Keeps me busy starting a cleaning business for her and her sister.
New avocation: I feel a great love of art and remodeling/decorating and have helped friends and family members to produce some pretty spectacular rooms. Sometimes I think I'd like to start a business helping those who can't afford new and expensive as I have a knack for finding the treasure in consignment stores, Home Goods, and even Target. Honestly so much more fun than spending a fortune for something that often has little character. Am currently looking at houses to "flip" with a contractor I met while fixing a house 2 miles away from me in EDH, for Licha, my mom's caregiver.
I've taken a few water color classes and am proud of the pieces I've created. Still skiing and will spend more time in Tahoe this winter (2016) nthan usual as I have a charming man ...Expand for more
in my life who hails from Hawaii and is a great partner in many endeavors. He is a "Snow Boarder" but a civilized one!
I've also done a few major SCUBA trips in the last couple years: Philippines and Fiji. Planning a trip to Thailand and Bali for another Dive Adventure (Cancelled by OAT for “political situation” reasons... darn! I'd also like to spend a couple months or so in Italy with a group of teachers from Fremont I’ve traveled with after having taught science with them last in 1990 (did it fall of 2018, along with Israel and Jordan with a couple I sometimes travel with, France, and Spain. Not yet in the planning stage, just the dreaming stage so far!
I realized after having read a few of the other bios that I failed to mention my relationship history: Married way to young (for me) at 21, and had 2 daughters. I realize now that I just didn't know myself, had never lived independently, and had no clue how much I wanted to "spread my wings"! We divorced 11 years later and I gave myself 21 years to be single. I thought I was looking for Mr. Right, but now figure I just was looking for me. I married an adventurer, 2001,(and a not very nice person, really... the trade off for the best adventures ever) and divorced him 3 years later. I've been Not looking ever since, and my snow buddy just showed up in the security line on a return trip from Hawaii... 2 years ago. He became my tenant at the cabin for a month, we got to be friends and then something clicked! Just goes to show! (Still friends but have moved on....)
So that's it for now, if you have anything to say, feel free to write a quick note, would love to hear what others from good ol' AHS have going on. We sure were a good group! 8/25/14.
Friend me on Facebook: I've been posting progress on the "Flip" in Cameron Park. It's the first of many (I hope) and so far we are not much over budget and not too late on the timeline. I'm doing some of the work but have a great contractor/ partner. I've been working my tushy off sanding, landscaping, painting, etc. Kitchen goes in after the bathrooms... I can hardly wait!
Have changed my mind (about 10 times) about tearing down Mom's house and want to fix it SOON! If you are reading this and are a contractor or know one that would be interested in partnering to flip it, PLEASE let me know. I'd work closely with him/her as I am here, and I hope to bring it back to its former "glory?" It is far from that now and will be a MAJOR PROJECT.
