Lynn's Story

My first job was at the department of recreation and fields, where I got paid $1.90 to line baseball diamonds. What I remember most about it is that they were always crooked. I always wanted to be a police officer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they were right. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have laughter, laughter, and more laughter to be able to deal with the day-to-day seriousness. My dad was my hero. He instilled great work ethics, very seldom got angry, and truly loved his family. He had very close friends throughout his life. I grew up in Dundalk; moved to Finksburg which is in Carroll County and built my first home. I just moved to a brand new home in Westminster (12/2010). I moved because my husband wanted to move into a new home and Lindsay and Matthew could attend the same high school!?! I'm obsessed with college. I love to learn. I'm also obsessed with raising happy, healthy children. My biggest surprise...Expand for more
has been that my oldest son wants no part of college. He stuggles to make ends meet...and that is "fine" with him. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the jenn-air propane stove to a ceramic flat top and add on a circular driveway with a weeping willow in the center. My dream home would be a beachfront home in North Carolina where the kids would come to visit every year. I've learned that the hopes and dreams of a parent can be dashed by a child's need to emulate others. Mr. Smith who taught Social Studies at North Point Jr. High School. He was a young teacher that brought out the best in his students. I learned to love current events and still do. If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it away to entice people to take the Clearview or OraQuick HIV 1/2 rapid test so that more people become aware of their HIV status, then spend the rest on a jet ski, sports car and North Carolina retirement home. I have only attended community colleges and have never experienced life in a dorm.
