Lynn's Story
Life has been an interesting journey, one I have grown both emotionally and spiritually. I have many interests. When I started out after High School I went to Emerson College in Boston. I wanted to be an actress, but was too shy to do the auditions so I studied Communications with a minor in Drama instead. After graduating, I moved back to Brewer and worked at Channel five, first in radio (with good ol' George Hale) and then went on to become News Director there. I moved to Boston and worked at Channel 38 and PBS until the mid 1980's when I moved to the island of Bonaire in the Carribean. My passion is animals. There was a lot of animal abuse on the island, so I went on a mission to begin an animal shelter. It took about five years. This was where and when I realized that not everyone thought like I did. What was important to me was not important to them. I learned a valuable lession that not everyone thinks like I do. So, I learned their culture and their language. The island now has a successful shelter with three Dutch veterinarians that rotate their time between there and Holland. I also love to dive, and went on to became a dive master. oy, the best thing that ever happened to me. They are great kids and I am very proud of them. Right now my daughter is studying to be an elementary school teacher/school psychologist and my son is studing engineering, both of them are in Maine. I started helping addicts on the island. No one there, not even the doctors were aware how to help them. I would visit other islands who had treatment facilities and get books from the States and bring info back to the islands. That got me interested in Counseling. I moved back to Maine in 1997, got my Masters in Clinical Counseling and now work counseling inmates in the Maximum Security Unit at the Maine Correctional Center. My passion is horses and the outdoors and I have a small farm in Gorham. I studied and was certified in Belgium as a Equine Psychotherapist. This work is specifically designed for mental health therapy, partnering the clients with horses. Horses mirror our feelings and reactions and it can be very insightful. I have three horses, one mini, (Tinkerbell), one rescued Standardbred,(Hunter), a real gentelman, and a young Palimino quarterhorse who has given me many trips to the hospital!!!! I'm not the best rider and she is a bucking bronco!!! A work in progress. As I get older, I think of my classmates more and hope you are happy and well.
