Lynne's Story

Life And who can fit their life bio in 4000 characters or less, right? I'll give it a try.....You all know my early years, so when I graduated from Emory I went to work for the Office of the University Vet the day after graduation and today, I still work for the same outfit, although it is now the Division of Animal Resources and where there were 11 staff members then, there are 72 now. I love this place and I love my work! Raymond once told me in Grad school that I would be really good at database administration and I thought he was crazy! Today, it is an integral component of my job. ALWAYS listen to your friends, they can be very wise! I met my husband through work and we went through grad school together. Rob and I have been married 22 years this year. We have two absolutely wonderful kids (not biased am I?) who are ethical, responsible young persons just touching on being young adults (i.e.: teenagers!) both gymnasts for 9 years and both having retired since then, both wonderful focused students, and being part of their growing up has been the best adventure of my life! We are such a typical American middle class family: a rambling house that is full of kids and pets (2 dogs, 6 cats, sometimes fish and frogs, tadpoles every spring) is never clean (but is kept relatively picked up!) and a trusty 13 year old Volvo station wagon with Rob driving an Odyssey van and working on his classic 1972 and 1979 Mercedes. My mother-in-law and my dad passed away last October, but my mom is still in East Point. We provide transportation services and visit regularly with her. Grandma died at the age of 99 almost 3 years ago. I had a hard time dealing with the death of our friend, Susie, a few years back and am still learning to cope with mortality. It was a denouement to go through stage I cancer myself and come out on the other end. I had grown away from my church activ...Expand for more
ities and possibly my faith and while these events forced me to re-evaluate my life and I am more at peace with my faith, I am still struggling with my time and putting my faith into action. This helped immensely with the death of a second young friend, Michelle, this past year. Again due to cancer. But even being at greater peace with one's faith and trusting in the maker, it's pretty hard to go through 3 close deaths in one year! Since then, I decided that being overweight was not going to stop me or put an end to being young...only my mindset would do this...so I purchased a pair of jeans, and have done all kinds of things: gone sailing, hopped in the water (after a training session) with a Beluga whale and gave it commands...wow it was cold, gone ski-ing several times...I can now go down the bunny slopes!, taken up hiking on every vacation we go one and even bike riding on the beach and last year, hugged a wolf dog! I also have learned to value my friends and family and have made an effort to spend more time with them. Our "college friends" weekend in Helen this past April was a great experience. As with every person I know, I struggle to make it all work and so I am not the correspondent with my friends that I want to be. I have tried very hard to 're-connect' with some of you, particularly Cori and Jeff, Jimmy, Ray, Steve, Karen and Cindy. But, as always, I haven't been able to keep up the flow of information! (Facebook is helping!) I have stayed in touch with many of my friends from Circle K and saw more of you when Dad Gray died. I'd really like to hear from Linda, Bucky, Roger, Sue Ellen, Baz, and many more that I just can't think of off the top of my head. I really believe in that old adage, "make new friends, keep the old...all of my old friends are gold and have a very special place in my heart. Write to me and let me know how you are doing!
