Lynne's Story

Life Just realized I haven't updated this in awhile. We have now been living in Florida for almost 6 years. We still love it. The first 2 years the hurricanes gave us a few thrills. Thankfully nothing serious. I am still enjoying my job at the veterinary practice. I have now been working there for 5 years. My husband Rick (class of '64) is doing well in his job and is glad he made the transfer to Florida. Several times a year we manage to see Greg Schifferle (class of '63) and his wife Betty. They live part of the year in Sarasota, just an hour from us. We celebrated my mother's 86th birthday in August. Last February she fell and broke her hip. She thankfully made a good recovery. She also had back surgery several months ago which has helped give her some pain relief. All in all she is doing OK for her age. Still mentally sharp, pays her own bills etc. College The best part of college, other than getting a degree was meeting one of my roommates. We became great friends and after graduation we spent 6 months in Europe working and traveling. An experience I wouldn't trade for anything! Workplace I currently work as a Customer Service Specialist at Animal Medical Diagnostic Center in Valrico, FL. I have been there for 5 years now and enjoy it very much. The animals are my favorite part, but I have met some really interesting people/clients too. Interests As many of you know I had horses for 30 years. A life long passion but I had to grow up and buy my own, never had one as a kid. Now that we are so much closer to retirement I no longer have horses. I showed Hunter/Jumper and the expense just can't be justified at this point in our lives! Photography is my new passion. Florida gives me many good opportunitys for great photos. And of course my cats (3 of them) do lots of silly things to capture with my camera. Update as of 12/04/14 - In September we sold our house in Brandon and purchased a house in Bradenton, very close to the Sarasota line. My sister and her husband finished their two year project of building a custom home and moved into the house in May. We transferred our mother from a nursing home in Brandon to one in Sarasota. It is a beautiful facility and she seems content. She is 91. Since we moved I had to leave my job of 10 years at the veterinary clinic. After the first of the year I plan to look for another job (part time), hopefully at another veterinary clinic as I really enjoyed my work. Update as of 10/28/15 - Well another year older as of 10/21....where does the time go!?!? We have now been in our home in Bradenton, FL for a little over a year. On July 2nd i started work at Bayshore Animal Hospital, again as a Client Service Specialist. I have really been enjoying the job. A little different that my last clinic as they do lots of birds. There are a number of birds that live at the clinic as well. There is a Hyacinth Macaw, 2 African Grays and a number of others. My mother is now 92 and still hanging in there. I am looking forward to our 50th reunion next summer! Hope many of our classmates make it to the reunion. Update 7/19/21 Wow, it is amazing how much time as gone by since my last update. Our class had its 50th reunion, which my husband and I attended. It was great fun catching up with many of you. Since the last update I worked at Bayshore Animal Hospital until 6/12 20 and now, despite Covid 19, have been enjoy...Expand for more
ing my retirement. My husband still teaches for State College of Florida (computer courses). He didn't teach this summer. Due to Covid, this last year all classes were on line. They are supposed to start in person in August. They have 3 campuses. He will rotate between them and they will broadcast to the other 2. It is the HOT time of year in FL so we really haven't been doing too much outside. We always look forward to the cooler weather when we can get out with our cameras and explore the outdoors! I hope all of you are doing well and staying healthy. UPDATE 1/3/23 Wow, another year has come and gone. In November of 2021 Steve Morgan visited Dave Zoerb in FL and my husband and I met them at Whiskey Joes for a meal and lots of catching up and great laughs. We had been looking for another home for a while. We decided to get out of a two story home while we still had no problem with the stairs. As many of you know, the housing market went crazy, along with the prices! Our hunt was complicated by the fact that we wanted to move even closer to my sister and her husband. Our relator, the wife of one of my cousins showed us many places. During the runup of prices, they sold a house they had built, knowing they could get a great price for it. The moved into a villa. We liked the neighborhood, it is only 2 miles from Laurie and Darryl and convenient to many places we go. Carolyn showed us a number of places in their neighborhood, including one similar to theirs....except it had too many built-ins, etc. that we would have had to remove. When we came back to their place my cousin asked me what I thought, I told him my issues and said, what I really want is your place! To which he responded, well I am sitting here looking at building plans! So we struck a deal, we closed March 31st so they could have the money to get started on the new plans. We moved in July 13th as they moved into a rental. Our house sold in one day in May and they were ok with us staying there until we could move into our new house. We back up to a beautiful small spring fed lake, lots of big trees and wildlife, including eagles and gators. Thankfully all of our trees stood up to hurricane Ian, though there was lots of debris down. While this is a villa, the only attachment to the house next door is the lanai wall. We have great neighbors on both sides. Lots of neighborhood activities, music programs, potlucks, etc. from October through May, then it gets too hot! So, we are very happy. Hope this finds the same with all of you. I post many pictures on Facebook. If you are on the site, I can be found under Lynne Callender Murray. December 20th, 2023 - Well another big change for us. When we made the move to our current house less than 2 years ago, we had no plans to move again. However, this summer in Florida was brutal and we know they will only get worse and lots of other reasons as well. On January 12th, 2024 we will close on a house in Webster, NY (suburb of Rochester). We lived in that general area for 17 years before moving to Florida in 2003. We know we will freeze our butts off until our bodies adjust, but we are really looking forward to the move. We still have lots of friends in the area and it is close to the barn where I rode and had my horses for 17 years. We will put our current house on the market in a week or so. Once that sells, we will be on our way! Stay tuned!
