MARK's Story
I started visiting Simi in the late 50s when my grandparents moved here My family moved here in 63 . I was in the 7th grade and went to Center School which was both Jr and High school The next year Sinaloa opened and I went there for 8-9. Then to Simi High for 10-12.
11th and 12th grade I spent more time ditching to go to the beach and work then in class. Too many parties and drugs my senior year. When I signed into Classmates and scanned through our year book I recognized a lot of names but not how I knew them . I only recognized 2 teachers and though I remember many visits to the Assistant Principals office I did not remember him.
I turned 18 half way through my senior year and registered for the draft and the day I graduated my draft notice was in my mail box and by July I was in the Army. A...Expand for more
year of training and a year in Viet Nam. When I returned home in '71 it was a different town. I moved to Iowa for a short bit and when winter hit I returned to Simi but found myself slipping into parties and drugs. So I left town and started a new life with new friends and that worked. I slowly worked my way through college in the late 70s and early 80s and when I graduated I went to work for the LA County Probation Department where I spent the next 32 years working with juveniles in custody settings retiring in 2018.
During those years I married a wonderfull lady with 3 small kids and we raised them living in Moorpark. They are grown and gone with their own family and a few grandkids to babysit for me occasionally. I retired in 2018 and Im still getting used to not going to work which I had always enjoyed.
