Life after UCLA (1961-67, AB in Economics and English, 1966; MA in Economics, 1967; PhD in Economics, 1975) and the Navy (1967-70) began with teaching economics at Virginia Tech 91974-78) and then Penn State (1978-81). I met Linda while teaching at Penn State, and we married in August 1980. A year later, I accepted a visiting scholar position at the St. Louis Fed. We stayed on for almost 9 years, renovated an old house, and had two kids in St. Louis—Jason in1981 and Lizzy in 1984. In 1990, we went off to Saudi Arabia where I was a US Treasury advisor to the Ministry of Finance for three years+, and Linda was a consultant to the Saudi govt on hospital automation. We traveled a lot—Kenya, Egypt, Germany, around the world in 1992—and the school—funded by the western private business sector in Riyadh—was marvelous for the kids.
