Malcolm's Story

Left Lampasas the day after graduation and moved to Abilene. In Abilene I worked construction for a year and installed commercial kitchen eqipment in schools and resturants for a year. Afterwards I moved to Waco to attend trade school (TSTI). I went to become an underwater welder, but only me and one other person signed up for the class. Fortunately, the class was cancelled so I enrolled in electrical power distribution (at the time the LCRA was hiring any graduate they could find). After a year of partying, studying, and working god awful hours I went to work with the Irvins building "weld up" metal buildings in Dallas and west Texas. My 6 years with the Irvins was great. In those 6 years I got married to Donna Stockman and we had a son, Chase, in June of 1984. We had a great time in Dalls until the oil market collapsed in 86. Business died!! I was out of works for a few months. During those months I tried to get any job that I could to make ends meet, but nobody was hiring. Eventually I lost everything that I had worked so hard for. After bottoming out in late 86 a company based out of Houston, MBCI, took a chance on this Lampasas yaloo and gave me a job. Instead of working in Texas they said they had an opening in Atlanta, Georgia. I took it... MBCI (Metal Building Components, ...Expand for more
Inc.) manufactures metal roofing and siding for metal buildings, schools, shopping centers, agriculture, and residential. I started in an entry level sales position taking sales calls in the office and worked my way for 22 years to Corporate VP of Operations and then to Executive VP of Sales. In those years I transferred around for the company from Atlanta, to Memphis, Valdosta, GA, back to Atlanta, and finally to Houston. In 1990 my relationship with Donna came to an end. I was fortunate enough to have custody of Chase. We "bached" it for a couple of years until I met the love of my life, Paulette Petersen. We came together while floating the "Hooch" in Atlanta. In 1992 we married. Paulette was and still is a wonderful mother to Chase. Recently I resigned from my Corporate job to go to work with my father-in-law in the car business. Mr. Petersen has been in the business for 17 years and has built a first class business. He wants to retire in the next couple of years and wanted me to come in and learn the business along side of his sons to continue the companies growth. Now I've gone from 2,500 employees to 20. Well that's it for my Readers Digest version of life since 1978. I hope all of you have done well and found the happiness that comes along with a loving family. Malcolm
