Mandi's Story

I'm a wife and a mom, and I got a late start! Anaheim High, the friends, the experience made me who I am. Music, Band (yes, I was one of 'those' for a couple of years and loved it!), Mozart Choir, "The King and I" (I did alot of the costumes!), the friends..I knew 'em all, and like them too! Dating, cruising, just having fun. Oh and I Ice Skated at Glacier Falls and still call alot of those 'Rink Rats' good friends. I worked at Disneyland, still visit a couple of times a year...and will never really grow up, I'm having too much fun! I side-stepped Jr College and ended up at the University of Hawaii (thanks to a boyfriend from Servite who played football at UH!) and spent 4 years finding myself. Best thing I ever did, the history and beauty of the islands grounded me and taught me that we are all one no matter what color you are or place your ancestors called home. I worked at Queens Medical Center, KITV (the ABC TV Affiliate in Honolulu -the BEST!) and studied on the beach of Waikiki. Back to the mainland in '87, went from wearing shorts and flip flops to work at the TV Station to getting hired by Price Waterhouse (yes, they do the Academy Awards, after all these years I still get asked that question!) Talk about shocking me back into the corporate world! Suits, pumps, brief cases etc... It was a great experience that brought me to the Bay Area (I transferred from the Newport Beach Office to the SF Office) when I met Herb in '90. 2 years of BART to SF and I was over the whole thing...hired by a ...Expand for more
Marie Callenders franchisee, I was the business manager for 2 stores for a couple of years and then just one. Loved it and did 13 years. 'Retired' in '06 when the store sold to MC corporate and never looked back, though I do miss the chef that made me breakfast, and little things like that. Family and Kids - I got married at (gasp!) 35, had our son Hadley at 40 (bigger gasp) and at 50 am loving life and my boys (hubby Herb and son Hadley). I'm a Cub Scout mom, I'm still crafting and do shows and boutiques around the bay area, and I adore musicals, plays, theatre and everything I learned to love at Anaheim. I re-live it all the time through "High School Musical", I know every word to every song and even some of the dance routines! I still have the apron I made in Mrs Palmeris 7th grade Home Ec class, it hangs on the back of my kitchen door as inspiration and a reminder of who I am and where I came from. Facebook has connected me with friends from Fremont, Anaheim and even to some from Betsy Ross...and that was 40 years ago. My parents live in the same house, my sister Meg (class of '80) is in Costa Mesa, married Brett Tweedy in the 80s and has kids that are in their late 20s...all is well with them. A trip to Anaheim is a treat! I wave hi to old friends' neighborhoods, swing by AHS for the memories (it looks wonderful!!!) and consider myself sooo lucky to be able to say I'm a Colonist. Hope all is well with you, and if you have read this far you are family now so say hello, ok?! Blessings to all!
