Manfred's Story
Manfred graduated from North Hills High School. He was a Professor and ex officio Trustee at the City University of New York. He received his BS in Chemistry from Michigan Technological University, his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Northwestern University, and had postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Freiburg in Germany and at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He has done research or given research presentations in Argentina, Canada, China, the former Czechoslovakia, Germany, France, Hungary, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Nepal, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerl...Expand for more
and, & the UK. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Nepal and Portugal and a DAAD Scholar in Germany. His work in Israel was supported by the European Molecular Biology Organization. He has been President of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Alumni Association for the US and President of the US Fulbright Association. In connection with that position he gave the Fulbright Prize for International Understanding to German Chancellor Angela Merkel. His research concentrates on blood coagulation and bacterial resistance to antibiotics. He and his wife have two sons and three grandchildren.
