Marc's Story

Marc A. King recently transitioned from the position of President Ceradyne Armor Systems, Inc.,
a division of Ceradyne, Inc. and is currently providing advice and assistance to several prime
defense contractors as the President and CEO of KGV Enterprises, LLC, a Defense Strategies
Consultancy.
Background
Encompassing 23 years of military service as an armor and armored cavalry officer in the United
States Army and retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, his service was characterized by two
combat tours of duty during which he earned multiple awards of the Bronze Star, the Air Medal
and the Combat Infantrymanâs Badge; as well as significant leadership assignments for which he
was recognized with multiple awards of the Armyâs Legion of Merit. His service includes
command assignments with armor and cavalry units worldwide as well as two tours of duty in the
Pentagon as an Army General Staff Officer serving in the Office of the Chief of Staff of the Army
and the Office of the Secretary of the Army; service for which he is authorized to wear the Army
Staff Badge. He is a Distinguished Military Graduate, âOn the Commandantâs List,â of the US
Armyâs Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas as well as a graduate of
the Joint Servicesâ Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia with a designation of âJoint
Service Officer.â Marc transitioned from military service in November 1988.
With his transition to a civilian career, Marc has held a number of key senior executive positions
in industry. He has served as a consultant to a number of European and Israeli companies in
business areas that include aerospace, naval defense, logistics operations and ground weapons
systems applications and has been the Vice President of International Business Development for
Gichner Shelter Systems as well as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for GMA Cover Corp
of Port Huron, Michigan, one of the leading suppliers of vehicle soft tops to the US Army Tankautomotive
Command. Before joining Ceradyne in his role as President of Armor Systems, Marc
was the Vice President of Mistral, Inc. of Bethesda Maryland. In that role, he was directly
responsible for supplying the US Army Tank-automotive Command requirements for up-armored
HMMWV parts as well as add-on armor kits for the M915A3 Long Haul Tractor. He was directly
responsible for providing the up-armoring kit solution for the United States Marine Corps MTVR
trucks in support of combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. His strategic marketing efforts
resulted in programs which ultimately generated over $10B in 1st tier subcontract vehicle armor
sales to OEM military truck manufacturers and the US Government.
Recent Position
Marcâs military and professional background provide 47 years of combined experience in
exercising clear and unambiguous leadership in a wide variety of roles and responsibilities. As a
senior executive with demonstrated ability in both service and manufacturing environments, Marc
has focused his energy and knowledge on customer service, strategic alliances and operations
and increased sales functions with the anticipated outcome of generating top line and bottom line
value for clients and shareholders. He clearly understands how operations and business
decisions create value for the investor and has achieved value by overcoming both financial and
human resource constraints.

Point man for $400M sales and operations budget with direct responsibility to balance sales
against operating capacity and overhead; while expanding opportunities in IR&D and continuous
product improvement. As a key corporate official, Marc was been tasked by the Chairman of the
Board with direct responsibility for corporate wide compliance with International Traffic in Arms
Regulation and Export Compliance. Spearheading this effort, he designed and executed a
program that has insured that all operational business units under his cognizance are compliant.
Fully conversant with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Marcâs program, designed to insure full
compliance from international corporate representatives and offshore employees, has become
the gold standard for compliance across the corporation.
As a highly skilled communicator and member of a public corporation, Marc was called upon from
time to time to brief the banking and investment community on market outlook, trends and
expectations and financial performance, requiring an in-depth knowledge of Congressional and
Defense budget development and execution as well as the fluctuating, often ambiguous, activity
across a vast number of Defense programs and their anticipated impact on corporate earnings.
He is often called upon by market analysts and the media for expert advice on defense related
matters. Marc is equally comfortable speaking with a US Senator, Congressman or Chairman of
the Board, or addressing a group of employees on a work site to provide information or inspiration
in achieving corporate goals. His current position also requires direct, effective and responsive
communications with government contracting officers. Government ID/IQ contracts, Firm Fixed
Price contracts, RFPâs, proposals and knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulations are all
part of Marcâs acquisition knowledge and skill set. Talking to customers, subcontractors and
competitors are routine communications carried out on a daily basis; and when necessary, he
provides clear and effective directions to corporate legal counsel to deal with contractual matters
that effect bottom line performance of the company. He has participated in the M&A activities of
his company providing advice and assistance in the conduct of several successful acquisitions
valued at more than $450M. His expertise in matters related to armor programs and government
budget operations often led to him being interviewed by a wide variety of industry oriented
journalists; seeking his expert opinion on matters of importance and interest to their readers.
Marc has conducted international business across the globe. His experience has taken him from
Europe to Asia, India, the Middle East and South America. He is a patient and skilled negotiator
who adapts to the culture in which he is asked to operate, placing the client or customer at ease,
and insuring that the deal is closed. His track record in this arena is unchallenged.
Education and Professional Associations
Marc is a graduate of The University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelorâs Degree in History.
He holds a Masterâs Degree from the Western Kentucky University in Public Administration. He is
married to Ms. Mary R. George, former member of the Senior Executive Service and Presidential
Rank Award recipient. They reside in Germantown, Maryland.
Marc is a member of The Association of the United States Army and the National Defense
Industrial Association; Phi Alpha Theta, National Historical Honor Society; and the Viet Nam
Veterans Association and 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (Blackhorse) Association.
