Marc's Story

There is only one "story" that has any real significance in my life (other than the birth of my daughter) and that's contained in the paragraphs that follow: Midnight, Sunday, October, 18th and the early hours of Monday, October 19, 2009. Bayfront Medical Center ER. I lost my wife, Brenda Mae (Salisbury) Turner suddenly and almost inexplicably at home here in St. Petersburg, Florida, to 'complications of diverticulosis'. We were married 36 years at time of her passing. True 'soul-mates' would be an understatement of our life together. Brenda and I were seldom away from each other for more than a day; her devotion to our marriage was unconditional and exceeded only the by care and attention she shared with our only child, Sara Elizbeth(now a mature young woman.) 1948 - 2009. Brenda was born in Rittman, Ohio, the eldest of two children. She is survived by her parents, Earnest and Betty Salisbury of Chiefland, FL, her younger brother, Rodger Salisbury of Rittman, her daughter, Sara Elizabeth, her spouse, Marc, and numerous related family members in Ohio. Brenda graduated from Rittman Highschool located in Wadsworth County, Ohio, and attended Kent State until her Junior year. She was seeking a degree in special education with a minor in mathmatics. Brenda came to Florida with her parents in 1972, worked at All Children's Hospital as a Recreation Therapy/Childlife Assistant, Pre-Admissions counselor, Clinic Office Assistant and Audiology Office Assistant. I met Brenda as a volunteer in the Recreation Therapy Department that she had just joined in October of 1972. Thrust together intensely over the following months, our personal relationship formed from the partnership that had been created by the job activities. We were later married at St. Lukes United Methodist Church in February of 1973. Brenda left ACH in 1979 and later returned. She finally retired from...Expand for more
All Children's after 15 years of service. During that time, Brenda and I both volunteered in the ACH employee/spouse 'Parent Coffee Program' during her employment at All Childrens Hospital. For a period of over 10 years, Brenda also worked as Office Manger and corporate principal in Turner family held 'Quality Printing Co. of St. Petersburg, Inc.' Brenda was last employed as a Medical Office Assistant in the Geriatric Medical Practice of Dr. Kenneth Neifeld in St. Petersburg, Florida. Sara's business venture, the non-profit, Pink Cricket Children's Center for Art ( on the Web - thepinkcricket[dot]org), begun in June of 2009, attracted the best of Brenda's volunteer efforts and the kind of attention that only a Mom can give. It was a difficult time as all three of us fell victim to lay-offs from our respective jobs. Despite the hardships, Brenda's quiet, conciliatory, demeanor; her steadfast service in whatever activity she engaged and the simple genuiness of her relationships won her friendship and appreciation with just about everyone she met socially or in the workplace. The mantra of our marriage can best be summed up in the poetic verse: "Come grow old with me, the best is yet to be; the last for which the first was made . . . ." No one was prepared for what has actually occured much less Sara or me. Brenda now rests eternally in the Bay Pines Veterans' Memorial Gardens here on the West Coast of Florida. St. Petersburg has become her 'home away from home' forever. There is no doubt that Brenda will live on in the hearts and minds of those who dearly loved her or simply knew her as a friend. I do have a reservation to join her in that secluded grassy space when my time comes. (It's good to be laid to rest with some fine Military folk as well.) Together, we'll finally be able to complete the poem's message. Marc T., loving companion, husband and father.
