Marc's Story
Life
I've been in New Orleans since 1989 when I moved to the area with my (then) wife to take a job with Martin Wine Cellar. After managing our two retail stores I moved to a general management and buyer position in 1998. I sell fine wine, teach "Beginner's Wine" classes for the company, host wine tastings, and enjoy the "good life" that New Orleans' music and restaurant scenes constantly seem to provide.
Divorced in '93 and met "the one" in 1999. Shannon and I are true 'soulmates' and married on March 10, 2002.
In 2003 we purchased an old (circa 1850) Creole Cottage in the Bywater region of New Orleans and Shannon took over the Sommelier position at Bayona Restaurant in the French Quarter.
A post-Katrina postscript:
Still here; didn't flood; business is getting better slooowly.
Our favorite quote used to be:
"This doesn't suck!"
After Katrina everything pretty much sucked in New Orleans. It's hard to believe it's been a year+ since the storm--so much is still not normal. But, each day things get better.
I'm amazed at how some simple things can make my day these days (i.e., "Hey look! They fix...Expand for more
ed that pothole", or "Wow! The stop light's working on Elysian Fields and St. Claude!"). Every day is a small step in (hopefully) the right direction.
What the city needs more than anything is visitors so, if the mood strikes you, come stay for a weekend and enjoy a great time eating and listening to music; it's still a great city! Email or call me if you want suggestions.
Workplace
I work for Martin Wine Cellar in New Orleans as a Wine Consultant, buyer, and Wine Educator. I started with Martin's in 1989 and have thoroughly enjoyed the sensory overload that the world of wine and spirits has to offer.
My wife Shannon and I have traveled to the wine regions of California, Oregon, Austria, Chile, Argentina and various parts of France on both business and pleasure. Shannon was the Sommelier and wine buyer at Bayona Restaurant in the French Quarter for the last five years. Though I may be biased, I do think it is the best restaurant in the city!
We have both been blessed with the opportunity to "work" in fields that started as hobbies and enjoy the benefits that our jobs afford. This doesn't suck!
