Marcel's Story
Hi everybody, Well, we're all getting older now. Many won't remember me cause I moved away from Waterville at about the Eight grade level and didn't return to town till my senior year. Even then I only stayed in school for half the year. I always new I would be a carpenter so I thought the hell with school and went to work swinging a hammer. I did continue to go to carpenter class at the high school and finished that. Then I joined the Navy with the Seabees, Finished at the top of my class at 'A' school, then got stationed on Guam. It was to late to go to Vietnam by then, but I was around for the evacuation of Saigon and helped the refugee's as they came to Guam to settle in America. After my hitch in the Navy, back to Waterville and built up a small construction business called 'Sunrise Construction Co.' Later built up a remodeling business with my brothers and eventually joined the carpenters union. Worked building paper machines at S.D. Warren, Helped refuel the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Plant several times, I liked that job. first kid in '98. Added a second one four years later. I got to tell you now, I'm in big trouble because they are very beautiful and smart girls. We all still live in Hawaii on the Big Island. We built up a ten acre farm growing Macadamia nuts and white pineapple. The pineapples are super sweet and white in color because of the very low acid content. I get compliments all the time about how good they taste. While farming I got a chance to work as a millwright at a local power plant called Puna Geothermal Venture. They power 25% of the Island. After about five years with them I resigned and went into business for myself. I became a licensed contractor and built a couple dozen houses. The power plant hires my company on a steady basis as I know the layout and procedures. We keep the place looking good by painting and build whatever needs building. We also do some of the mechanical contracting to help out during shutdowns on some of the bigger jobs as their mechanics have their hands full most of the time. Well, when you coming over? Give a call if you want. #808 938-6846 I think if anyone was to remember me it would have to be from the old Sacred Heart School days Take care, Aloha. Marcel A. Turmelle
