Marci's Story
24 July 2011 Over a year since my last entry. I don't like the new format- too hard to get the information. Still in VA, still happily married.
30 May, getting steamy as we head toward summer. We had a spectacular, record breaking snowy winter. Spring was cool and wet. I think the hard winter really encouraged the explosion of growth we're seeing. I've been on facebook for just over a year and it's incredible how many old friends I've reconnected with!
25 November- Wow-almost six months since I last wrote. Our gorgeous summer became a fabulous fall. The trees are nearly leafless now and it's been gray and rainy. I wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Mid-July. This is a bumper year for lightning bugs and it's gorgeous in the evenings. I've increased the number of birdfeeders and have been rewarded with a boom in the number of feathered visitors- I even had a murder of crows yesterday- first I'd seen since we moved. I have regular raccoon visitors- a little male and female pair. They're about half the size of normal, but seem very healthy. The female, Bella is skittish. The male, Beau is bold as brass and REALLY wants to visit inside the house!
Early May. Our azaleas are bursting out all over the yard. Gray, rainy Sunday. Great for getting stuff done around the house!! I have the windows open and there's a nice breeze coming in. The daffodils are blooming and the sparrows are nesting in the martin house. Very nice!
January 2009
Another year started! I spent Christmas in Ann Arbor visiting with family. I had a wicked head cold, so most of my time was spent wrapped in a comforter on my mom's couch watching lousy TV. Still, it was great to be home and a holiday spent so quietly, really allowed me to reflect on my blessings in life. I hope 2009 finds you and yours healthy and happy. Drop a line if you have the opportunity.
Autumn is the loveliest season in Virginia. Our leaves are just starting to change. It's still warm, but the nights are cooler and the days, shorter. I'm still enjoying my work with cyber protection and digital forensics at GD-AIS. Really interesting people and the cases are like something off of TV. Please drop me a line and let me know what's up in your worlds!
April 2008: As much as I miss Michigan (and the many other places I've lived) there is NOTHING like spring in Virginia. We've had blossoms erupting for weeks. As I s...Expand for more
it in my home office, I see the azealas in full bloom throughout our front yard. Our tulips and irises are blooming. It's all really lovely.
We had a truly wonderful Christmas Season. It started with my mom, aunt and cousin coming out from Ann Arbor for fried Turkey on Thanksgiving. We saw TSO twice- once in Richmond, once in Detroit. Had Christmas Eve here and flew home to Ann Arbor Christmas afternoon for a couple days there.
It's been a long, but satisfying journey from Ann Arbor. When I was on active duty, I was stationed in Florida, Rhode Island, California, Virginia, Italy, Bosnia and Washington State. Work and pleasure travel has gotten me to 48 states, most of Europe and the former Soviet Union, Australia, and some of Asia and Central America. I'm married to an Army LTC from southern Ohio- between UM/OSU and Army/Navy college football season is a LOT of fun in our house! My folks are still in Ann Arbor and I try to get back a couple times a year. I look forward to hearing from anyone and everyone who remembers Ann Arbor back when Drake's was still around. My husband, Mike Woodgerd retired from the Army 26 May 2005.
School
Everytime I come back to Ann Arbor I see SO many changes. Several years ago, I walked over to Northside Elementary School. It still smelled the same. I remember my first day of Kindergarten with Miss Rehill. She had a dove in the classroom- amazing that was more than 40 years ago! I look forward to hearing from classmates.
College
The undergraduate degree at Michigan prepared me for a life I didn't expect and experiences I couldn't have imagined! My subsequent degrees were more technical. Although the second masters' was a blast to get. I'm looking at enrolling in a PhD program at George Mason this spring. I look forward to hearing from all my fellow Wolverines!
Workplace
In August 2004, I retired from the Navy with just over 20 years- the time has just flown. When I was in college, I'd thought I'd become a teacher or museum curator-THOSE are certainly paths I haven't followed! I'm currently with General Dynamics- Advanced Information Systems. My job is Commercial Cyber Forensics Engagement.
Military
My military experience was unique. I've been able to see and do things that I wouldn't have ever thought possible. I have been an eye-witness to many historic events and met many wonderful people through my time in service.
