Marcia's Story

I live on an island paradise in SW Florida with my husband, Richard, of 20 years and our 7 cats. We moved here from Dallas where we met. I retired at 50 for 1 year, but I guess I am not the retiring type- besides, rescuing cats in my retirement was how we wound up with 9 of them and we are out of space for any more cats! After a long, fun, but stressful career, I am having fun at my current job! I was raised Jewish but am now a born-again Christian and Jesus and my church has become very important in my life. I never expected to become the crazy cat lady AND the crazy church lady! I am as surprised as you might be! My professional experience includes 32 years in outside corporate sales- which allowed me to travel a lot and had the luxury of visiting Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul,Korea and Taipei,Taiwan several times. I worked in the bar code, RFID, and graphics industries including software,...Expand for more
hardware and vendor support for major retailers. I now am the General Manager of a small 19 room inn on a resort island called Marco Island Lakeside inn and I love it. My first exposure to the hotel industry was at this inn as a part-time position at the front desk after my 1 year of retirement. I quickly learned that handling reservation requests, replying to email inquiries and dealing with guests was also a sales position. It evolved into a full-time position as General Manager. After years of business suits, high heels, make-up and perfect hair styles, it's a hoot to go to work in jeans, no make-up and my naturally curly hair just the way I woke up with it! It sure doesn't pay like my life-long career, but then, I don't need it to now. I also have one daughter and 2 precious grandchildren who live in the Dallas area.
