Marcus's Story
Life
I had hoped I would not become one of those people who suddenly wakes up and finds myself asking, "How'd this happen?" Having just come up on my 35th birthday, however, I find that is exactly who I am! Class of 90? Eeek! Wasn't that the last milleneum...
Anyway, this milleneum finds me living in the Bay Area still. I contemplate relocating, but I just have not found a place with better weather, food, or people. But, I am open to suggestions!
Though, I lived in San Francisco for over a decade, my partner and I bought a house a little over two years ago, and are now living in the Oakland/Piedmont area. We are very happy here, but I refuse to grow old here. I was born at the hospital just a few blocks away and am unwilling to have been born and die on the same spot.
For those of you who remember my sister, Sharitta, she and her two boys, Elijah(12) and Josh(9)live very close by. 12&9- feeling old yet?
In my spare time(yeah right), I play a little geetar, and do some writing (songs, short stories, and my blog).
It would be great to hear from anyone who remembers me and strange to hear from anyone who doesn't ;- ) Drop a line ...Expand for more
and say hello.
Be well,
M
School
Not much to say here. I hung with all the Drama Geeks mostly, but was friends with anybody who wasn't a hater.
I wrote tortured teen poetry, and was constantly getting busted for being the class clown (a contradiction I know).
Workplace
My degree is in Clinical Psychology and initially that was my chosen field.
One of my first jobs was working as a social worker/case manager for and agency that services families in crisis. I conducted home visits with families who had lost custody of one or more children.
It was pretty intense work, but nothing compared to my next job as a substance abuse counselor for teens. I learned a lot, but just after a year I needed a break from direct service and found a job as an administrator at a homeless shelter.
That's how I sort of "fell in to HR" and now years later I find myself in the Human Resources Department at a San Francisco law firm. ZZZZZZzzzzzzz. I think I need not explain further, why at this point in my career, I have made the decision to return to school and pursue my doctorate. So, fingers crossed!
