Marcus's Story

Life I retired from the Savannah Morning News in August 2001 after working there 50 years. Along the way I wrote sports, was the Executive Sports Editor, the Sunday Editor, the Agriculture Editor and finished up as a roving feature writer for outlying areas. I was awarded the Georgia Press Association's 50 year award (an Olympic-type medallion)in 2001 for working that number of years for a Georgia newspaper; earned several writing awards over the years and was a 2001 inductee into the Savannah Athletic Hall of Fame (joining Ronnie Rush and Coach M.A. Spellman). om Blackshear, and I celebrated our 40th anniversary on Feb. 17, 2004. We have two children, Alexa (35), who works with Alltel, and Marlan (33), a federal agent. Alexa has graced me with 4-year-old granddaughter Darrien and this August (2004) we'll have a grandson, Joshua. Marlan has a new-born daughter, Megan. For the past 36 years I have been the official scorer for Savannah's professional baseball team at Grayson Stadium. For three years now I have enjoyed retirement. We've been to Arizona twice (drove) to see our son, and go on trips when we feel like it. That's about it from Richmond Hill.
