Marcus's Story
After high school, like so many of us, I joined the Air Force. I spent the most of my tour of duty based in Hawaii (ahh, the agony...)where I was wild, reckless and unconcerned about the future.(This philosophy would be my credo for the next 20 years). From here we flew missions throughout S.E Asia, the Pacific Islands, as well as the lower 48. The blessing was that after each mission, I got to return to Hawaii as home.
After the military, I attended college, got married, lived in Boston, moved to NC. I worked for the State of North Carolina for 10 years. During that time I got divorced, married, divorced. I moved back to Detro...Expand for more
it in 1985. That's when life got sooo much better. I met my soulmate, raised a family. We retired and moved back to NC in 2005.
As I look at where I am today and reflect on where and what I was doing back "in the day", I can only say that God is good! He has blessed me with a beautiful family and home. If there was one statement that would characterize me today it is, "I survived my youth in spite of myself". Thanks be To God. At 61 I still play tennis and am able to dress myself (smile).
My current age is 61. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be living with one foot in the grave. I was so completely wrong.
