Margaret's Story

I live in Santa Cruz, CA where I have resided for the last 20 years or so. Santa Cruz is located at the top of the Monterey Bay Sanctuary and is probably one of the more liberal place in the United States of America. The Beach is maybe a mile from my front door but don't get any ideas about "the endless summer" and "beach bunny bing". Yeah, we have surf-sometimes really big swell and we fight with Hunting Beach (in Southern California) for the title of "surf city", but the water is cold and so it the temperature. 80 is considered really hot here. Winters are mild and the summer is often foggy, but not like the fog that you get in Chattown. We get fog that is not on the ground but "high" fog. The marine layer coming in of the ocean and it does a good job of keeping us warm in the winter and cool in the summer. We also have wonderful mountains with large redwoods just 4 miles form here. A short trip (1 or so) will get you to San Francisco with all its pleasures. Santa Cruz is small and easy to get around. Gas is a sucking $4.50 a gallon at the cheapest right now. We have legalized medical marijuana and our local city council has been know to distribute it on the steps of the court house. Pot is a ticket for anything less than an oz. We have gay pride parades and sometimes even nudity in downtown Santa Cruz. So you get the picture~Liberal and pretty tolerant. If you ain't hurtin' no one, then we try to leave you be. I graduated from UTK with a degree in Home Ec. which is still gets a laugh out of my family when we talk about it. I majored in Arts and Crafts which just happened to be under the Home Ec department at the time. It was actually in the process of being moved to the Art Department as I graduated. Getting this degree is one of the things that I would change in my life if I could have a "do over". Maybe next life time. Anyway, this was a pretty useless degree when it came to making a living. So, consequentially, I've had a rather varied employment history. Retail sales, factory work, small manufacturing, exhibitionist (in an art museum~ I hung the exhibits which made me an exhibitionist~ caught your attention thou). Finally learned something useful after getting laid off from a job. Learned computers and have never looked back. Pretty proficient at the computer and thankful for the opportunity to go to school (6 months/part-time) and have the government pay for it. Best investment they ever made. I now pay WAY more in taxes. I worked in the mortgage industry for 6 years doing database work and marketing. Well, we all know where that ended up. Went to hell in a hand basket! I got out just in time. The company, and it was the largest local lender in the bay area, went belly up after 26 years in business. Can you say melt down. i am now the office manager for a financial planning company. Lots of detail work and organizing of papers and I pretend to be the bookkeeper as well. Oh, also as office manager I have to ride heard on the rest of the employees. I've never made a lot of money but I've always been able to find and keep a job that allowed me to pay my rent, usually in a roommate situation since rent here is probably more than your house payment, and feed myself. The last decade has actually provide me with enough income to save a little for my retirement and to have some disposable income. Nice. I love to garden, mostly flowers but sometimes veggies. I eat pretty healthy but do like my coffee...Expand for more
and chips. I also enjoy watching moves, going to art museums and chillin with my friends. Oh, and then there is the zig saw puzzle addition. Did you know that you can do zig saw puzzles on your computer~ not as much fun as the real thing but will do in a fix. I have 2 cats, Gato and Phoenix. Phoenix was adopted from the local pet store. He is long haired, black has the loudest meow and he loves to hunt. When he can't find mice or gofers he brings me plants sometime with flowers on them. Gato was a stray on the beautiful piece of property that I live on. He is a tuxedo cat and, once he was fixed and cleaned up and learned some house manners, turned out to be a great addition to the household. He is very loving and loves to purr and cuddle. I rent her in Santa Cruz because you can't afford to buy. Median house price use to be $750,000. No typo, that is median and would get you a 2 bedroom with not ocean view and might need some work done. the price has dropped now do to the "slump" in the housing market. Median in now about $600,000. or so. I'm invested in a small privately held company called Media Rights Technology. There are several different branches of the company, one is Bluebeat.com This is the online radio portion and you should check it out 'cause they got great "pick your own tunes" and the highest quality music. The other part of the business has to do with intellectual property rights and the owner ship of a LOT of pattens for technology that will prevent the ripping of audio and video files. The company is getting close to being sold (or at least the I.P. portion) and I'm hoping for a bidding war so that my stock is worth mucho $$$. Time will tell, as they say. I visit in Chattown about every other year or so. I go to visit my family and to see my friends who still live there. I try to go in the spring or the fall 'cause you guys have that humidity thing in the summer that is just too hard to take, thou I do miss hangin' out on the warm summer nights. O.k. if you are still reading this then you must be either 1) really bored 2) need to get a life 3) or someone that I know or knew really well~ in which case you should drop me a note. My profile has been on here for awhile but I just signed up to be able to read messages and stuff. (6/13/08) What more can I bore you with. I don't watch regular television but do watch netflicks. Don't think that I'm missing much...maybe Bill Moyers. I've watched a lot of sci-fi do to the bad influence of friends. Mostly I like comedy 'cause I love to laugh and drama 'cause I love to be involved in the movie. Plays are nice but don't get to them often. Last movie I watched at home was "Breach" about catching the biggest spy in the history of the USA. GREAT ACTING. Last movie I watched in the theater was "Indian Jones and the Crystal Skull" because it was Indian and you had to. Might go see "Sex in the City" this weekend and then for some sushi after. Got to see what happens with MR. Big, after all. Great show. Politics is something that I am interested in and try to keep up on. "Our" government and constitution has been high jacked and "we, the people" need to work to take them back. We need to get the lobbyists and the $$$ out of our government so that the representatives will remember who it is that they are suppose to be working for. Go Obama, no donations from lobbyists. Thats new. Well thats about it and if you made it to here you win the award for endurance!
