Margaret's Story

After high school I graduated from Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh. My first position, out of business school was Administrative Assistant to PA Congressman James Fulton. When he left office I worked at Alcoa in Pittsburgh, then transferred to Alcoa in Los Angeles, CA. I was married eight years. I divorced my husband, and I then moved back to the Pittsburgh area with my children and worked in Canonsburg for Aquatec, International In 1978. I moved South to be near my family in Ft. Lauderdale in 1986.. I went back to school and graduated as a medical transcriptionist. I worked for several hospitals in South Florida before changing careers. I went back to college while still working and received an Associates Degree in Health Information Management. After working several years in the hospital environment as a Certified Health Information Manager, I took advantage of an opening in the medicare insurance industry. I became a Medicare and Individual Benefits Consultant/Medicare Insurance Sales Agent. I've worked for this medicare health management organization based in Miani for over 14 years. My office was in the branch office in Hollywood, FL. It was the best decision I have made in my life. I work with people (65 and older) on Medicare or disabled and on Medicare. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for older people, and I was able to affect their lives in amazing ways by helping with their problems and helping them choose the best health insurance for their needs. I love living in Florida, but I do miss the change of seasons in the North. The weather is almost always warm, balmy and beautiful here. I live about 30 minutes from the beach; however, I do go early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the hottest times of day. I enjoy walking Fisherman's Wh...Expand for more
arf and dining in restaurants right on Ft. Lauderdale beach, just feet from the ocean's edge. It is great having an early breakfast or dinner, watching the sunrise or sunset and seeing the beautiful colors painted across the sky. These experiences cause you to feel like you have died and gone to heaven. As you can see, I am in love with living here; however, I think I would like to be a "snowbird". I'd live here in Ft. Lauderdale part of the year and in the north part of the year. II am the Mother of one daughter and one son and the grandmother of seven. I retired in Sept. 2009. I will look forward to going back to see friends and family all over the country. I have three sisters (all registered nurses) and two brothers, Navy retirees. My mother is still alive and lives in Alabama with my oldest sister. I lost my father in 1988. I am feeling guilty about not being around to help my mother in her senior years. She is doing fine for now, but may need help in the future. Fortunately I have siblings living in AL to watch over her. I don't want to ever live in Alabama -- it is sooo hot. I have been married and divorced once. God has blessed me with a wonderful family, great friends, and a satisfying and busy career. What a small world it is. I worked in the same company and same position in Hollywood, FL with the sister of our class peer, Candy Gilames. I have posted a few photos and will add additional photos in the future. Would love to hear from anyone by email who has graduated in 1964 with me. Linda O'Black, Patty Barnes, Cathy DeBor, Nola and Cindy Carpetta, Rita Wilson, Nancy Vitori, Stanlea Heinz, Karen Acton, Paula Milan , Donna Grubich, Karen Oats, and others. Please be sure to let me know you have stopped to peruse and sign my guestbook. Thank youl.
