Margaret's Story
Life
Went to business college in Calgary. Moved to Vancouver area in 1972 and have lived here ever since.
Never married but have dated off and on through the years.
Worked at several jobs. The most notable was a 14 year stint at Xerox in the Dispatch department.
Left Xerox in 1995 and started my own catering business. Whent to Chef school in the fall of 1995 and was part of a year-long EI sponsored Self-Employment course during 1996-1997. Have catered on a part-time basis since.
In 1997 I took the training to become a professional driver and drove school bus for 2.5 years after that. 1998-2003 I drove limousine part-time to pay the bills.
From early 2004 I have been unemployed (with a short stint as an ice cream truck driver in the summer). Since August 2004 I have been unabl...Expand for more
e to work due to a bad fall and doing a number on my back (which I had injured several times before). In July I started driving 2 days a week for the Senior's Bureau here in New Westminster and hope to move that along to 4 days a week by next spring.
Since I first came here I have gone back to my roots and joined the Presbyterian Church doing many things both in my local congregation and in the Presbytery's camping program. In 1993 I was elected a ruling elder in my local congregation and take this position very seriously.
In November 2005 I added another part-time driving job to the schedule - working 2 days a week for them. In May last year I added
another day to my work with the Senior's Bureau. Both these jobs
give me great satisfaction as I feel I make a difference for the clients.
