Margaret's Story
Life
I'm not quite sure why I'm getting involved in this, maybe just to find other people who hated Springbrook as much as I did. Whatever, here is the quick bio information:
After a few years working as a teacher's aide I got my BA in Special Education in the mid 80s. I taught for several years at House of Ruth in Washington DC in their program for homeless children. During my time in DC, I also got involved in a good amount of AIDS and gay/lesbian rights activism with the groups ACT UP and Queer Nation. I then spent two years in the Philippines doing volunteer work with street children. Upon my return to the States I lived two years in Baltimore, again working at a program for homeless and at risk children. For the past few years, I've bounced back and forth between New York and Manila,...Expand for more
although I've recently moved to a new apartment in Brooklyn and it looks like I'm here to stay for a while, teaching special needs children of course. I would still however like to return to the Philippines at some point in the future, either to continue working at the orphanage I've been involved with for all these years, or possibly to start up my own program there.
I've been an avid traveller these past years, hitting 25(?) different countries with my backpack, mostly in Asia but also Central and South America and Africa. I'm also a history buff, have become a bit of an opera/Broadway queen and am a big crossword puzzle nerd. I've managed to keep healthy and fit, cycling, swimming and working out, and must say I look a hell of a lot better than I did in 1981, not a difficult task!
