PEGGY (Mararet)'s Story
Life has been extremely good to me. My professional and personal lives have been rewarding and sustaining. I have friends on both coasts. The short form is as follows. With David Letterman in mind, here are the Top 10 Things you might like to know:
1. Graduated from University of New Haven with B.A. in English and headed for graduate school where I received my Master's degree in English.
2. My first teaching job followed quickly, as luck would have it, teaching English in the Transitional Studies Department at UNH, my Alma Mater.
3. With no PhD in hand, and market prospects slim, I transitioned myself in a second Master's degree in Criminal Justice at UNH. From there, my professional life launched in CJ with a tenure track position at SUNY Ulster in 1974.
4. I took a 2 year leave and secured a J.D from Hofstra (1979-81), followed by a move to CA in 1985 to become the first woman civilian Police Academy Director in the state. Oh, and I was a cop for the Ellenville (NY) PD for 7 years while teaching at SUNY Ulster. T...Expand for more
aught at SUNY Ulster for 11 1/2 years prior to heading West.
5. Police Training Directorship led me back to academia for the State of CA where I taught for 27 years total., retiring in 2012.
6. I was bi-coastal (that's bi-coastal!) between 2009-2012, as I immersed my professional energy in on-line teaching in CA and NH.
7. I am now residing f/t in NH and have three active accounts (colleges) for whom I teach CJ and Psychology as an adjunct professor.
8. Adopting retired Greyhound racers has been part of my life since 1989. I have had as many as three at one time (in CA where I had a fenced yard), and now have one--Fawn! (the racer formerly known as U Too Ethel) who came to me through an adoption group in FL and MA.
9. I am happy and spiritually, emotionally, economically, and socially healthy! :-))))
10. While my parents have been deceased for many years (Father 1977 and Mother 1981 respectively), my brother Dan ('65) and sister Suzanne ('74) are close at hand and part of my many on-going gifts that keep on giving.
