As a nurse, I have not worked steadily. I felt it important to stay home and raise my children while they were young. So, often I worked around their lives. I spent many years being the "warm kitchen, cookie Mom" and working part time teaching prenatal classes at night when their father, my husbnd could put them to bed. As they grew older, and were in school all day, I was able to work more. I left the hospital settings and worked in public health. Then I was able to come home at 4 PM when school was out. arly to come to VA. to be "Granny Nanny" for my first grandson. (He's now about to be 19 and is 6'4") His at home siblings are 17, 16, 15, & 13. There is also a 22 yr old who lives nearbye. The six of them are "yours, mine and no ours", children of my daughter and her second husband.
I had returned to work--30 hours a week for the local health dept. in 2000. and gave up being "Granny Nanny". I'm now just "Granny". Although I'm 73, I feel about 50 (most days) and plan to work as long as I can. People tell me I look about 50-54 not that I will be able to claim that for long. I had a mild stroke 11/10/04 and was unable to work for a year. I've recently started a part time job at the day care center across the street. Take a look at my announcements for more info. on that subject.
