Margaret's Story
Life
Have lived a successful and blessed life...worked in the entertainment industry with folk like Sammy Davis, Jr., Cicely Tyson, Bill Cosby, Redd Foxx...then the non profit arena as a grant writer for the Charles Drew Medical Foundation [LA], the United Negro College Fund [SF], and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, as well as Eecutive Director for women's shelters in DC, ATL and LA...also worked as an independent grant writer, event planner. My grown daughter lives in Atlanta, GA. I currently live in LA...enjoy traveling around the world collecting art and musical instruments. My vegetable garden keeps me healthy year-round.
Changes have been made since I last edited this story! My daughter made me a grandma on December 14, 2011...Tatum calls me "Memere." They live in Los Angeles and Danielle works with me as the Resident Manager of the shelter for homeless female veterans where I am the Executive Director. It was a long time coming...I have friends who have great-grandchildren...but it ...Expand for more
was worth the wait. She is the joy of my life...keeps me going!
I recently purchased a home in Baldwin Hills Estates and have been renovating it to live the rest of my life in comfort.
When we were in our senior year at LAHS I was a member of the Future Teachers of America. I didn't take that career path until later in life. Taught Business classes at the Shell Youth Services Academy with students from Washington Prep and Crenshaw High School. As an instructor with LAUSD I was successful in creating a curriculum called "The High Cost of Living" that was adopted by the State of Arizona Department of Education and I became a consultant to them to create and strengthen the subject.
Most classmates will remember that I sang on our 12th grade talent show. Didn't launch a career in show business but I have kept my finger on the pulse of the entertainment industry over the years.
Looking forward to seeing all of those who will be attending the 50th Reunion of the Class of 1965 in July 2015!
