Margie's Story
Life
Be sure and read my announcement posted July 31, 2005.
After graduation from Howard I received my bachelors and masters degrees from Memphis State (now University of Memphis). I taught special education and worked on a federal project to train teachers with "special" needs children in the regular classroom setting.
Along with my husband, I owned and operated an automotive repair shop and parts business for twenty years. We sold the parts business division in 1995 and for the next eight years I worked first as the office manager and then as the executive producer of a community theater. I am now retired.
I live in the country north of Memphis. I raise trees and wildlife. In fact there is a family of raccoons who knock on the door at night for dinner. In the winter I frequently find deer and occasionally foxes in the front yard waiting a handout. Fortunat...Expand for more
ely, the cats and dog get along with the woodland visitors.
I am still active in theater.
My husband of 35+ years died July 11, 2004 of a massive heart attack. Check out American Donor Service to see about continuing his mission of helping others.
I have two daughters. One is married and has three children. She and her husband repair small engines. They live about 15 miles north of me. The other daughter is divorced and has two children. She lives within five miles of me and teaches in Tipton County. She was recently named Teacher of the Year in her district.
I work as a special education teacher for Shelby County, as a standardized patient (I get paid for "acting" sick so the student doctors can practice on me before they see you!), and I give speeches for the American Donor Services.
I hope to hear from many of you. Margie (now Leigh) Pilkerton (now Walden).
