Margie's Story
Life
I live in Lake Mary (and if I stay in the same house - my kids will go to Lake Mary High, too!) with my two wonderful kids, Rick and Samantha. Rick is 11 years old and will be in sixth grade in the fall of 2008. Rick plays the piano and loves karate! He is reserved but has lots of friends and interests. Samantha is eight years old and is in the third grade. She is a talented violinist. She is as talkative as I (still) am and loves to be the center of attention. We also have two kittens named Harry Potter and Hermione Granger!
Workplace
I received my Bachelor's degree in Social Science Education in 1989. I began teaching sixth grade World Cultures/Ancient Civilizations in January 1990. I taught the same subject for four years and then, became interested in children's literature and educational technology. I earned my Master's degree in Educational Media soon after. So, I now work as an elementary school librarian (although I prefer the term "Libra...Expand for more
ry Goddess"!). I was honored in December 2005 as the Teacher of the Year by my colleagues. I am very honored to represent this truly great school - we've been an "A"-rated school for eight years in a row. I received this same honor at Geneva Elementary in 1996. To receive it twice in my short career has been overwhelming! My kids are able to attend the same school where I teach which makes life much easier.
My goal as I left high school was to replace Jane Pauley on "The Today Show"...remember her? I did pursue journalism in college at the University of Florida for awhile. However, I found that journalism (and U of F) was not for me. I transferred to SCC and finished at UCF. Teaching makes me happy and I love what I do. Ironically, one of my responsibilities is to produce a daily, live ten-minute news show with fourth and fifth grade students. We have a teleprompter, two cameras, video & audio mixers and all kinds of "toys" in the newsroom. It's a lot of fun!
