Maria's Story

I am the girl who moved out of the country during my freshman year, but I always remember the classmates I used to have in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade... probably more than anyone in high school. The person I miss the most and is very often on my mind is Minerva Gonzalez, we were inseparable, but have lost contact through the years. I often wonder if she thinks about me as often as I think of her, she was a true friend, I hope some day my daughter can experience the feeling of having a friend like, the friend Minerva was for me. When we moved to Mexico, I cried a month straight hated everything about it the..houses, people, Spanish,...and most of all being so far away from everything I had ever Known, this was by far the hardest thing I've ever had to endure...and I've lived a story or two or three in my life (maybe I'll write a book some day). I remember after my sister told me to get over it and just buck up, I was determined to start living, I guess, what ever that meant at 14, I THOUGHT I was fluent in Spanish, oh little did I know... literally, I now, only didn't know how to speak the language, I couldn't understand half they were saying either. Anyway long, long, long story short It was probably a blessing in disguise:) However at age 22 we all returned to the most wonderful place on earth, Yes the U.S of A. I love it here. I am now 44 and am happily married and have a 15 yr. old boy and a 13 yr. old girl, and of course an amazing husband! although he is Me...Expand for more
xican...I couldn't get it out of my blood completely, oh well. hahahahah! On another note the people I remember as children: Minerva Gonzalez, Marcie, Stacie Taylor, Robin Pack, Jovita Espino,Rossane , Rosalie, Audrey and her brother, Martin and Ramon, Lenny, Ricky and Alfonso and this other kid (they would always hang), Ernie Baltazar, Ruben,Larry Espino(nice guy and his mom too), Alice(she lived around the bend from me), Patricia Romero(she won that Presidents thing, I missed it by one inch in the long jump..that was heart breaking), Angelo Apodaca,(the scariest boy in the whole school.. believe it or not, but I think of him a lot, He's probably dead, due to some gang stuff) and his sister(Very scary...Angelo would come up to me EVERY morning and mess up my hair and if I tried to defend myself, he'd tell me he'd "sick" his sister on me and she seamed like a vicious dog, some one you don't mess with).I probably only weighed maybe 80 or 90 lbs. only Velma Pasillas was skinnier than me. Got the visual now! Anyway, from high school I remember very few people: Martin Trevino, Angie Trevino,Lervando Gonzalez,Alma,Mario Gonzalez(my 6 gr. crush), Chris Calvero (he was Papa San in a script we had to do), That's pretty much it my high school like I said was cut short, but I remember people every now and again. It's just the names aren't fresh in my mind, but if I one day see them It will all come back to me. I hope everyone has lived a full and blessed life...so far.
