Maria's Story

Hey I'm just working towards making the world a better place by working on my little corner of it. My occupational background is in Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Mental Retardation. I am currently an AASC member/American Association of Service Coordinatiors and served as Vice President of the Ohio Chapter this year. I lost my job as a DME Medical Sales Rep in January 09. So I'm going back to school for nursing in October and in the meantime enjoying the summer with my daughter, Jordan, now 16. I've had a great life with the best companion and we are happy. I love him very much! He's very private so I won't share much about him. We live in Columbus, Ohio currently. I love the neighborhood I live in because it is diverse and located close to everything! I'm in the Short North Arts district. My daughter loves it because she is an up and coming writer, poet, vocalist and musician. She also dabbles in visual Arts. She is a great kid, a little head strong like her mother and very open to diverse populations. Food for Thought: The key to happiness is never becoming a spectator! Stay in the game, and behave yourself, or you'll sit the bench! Also love your neighbor as you love yourself! You are either part of the solution or part of the problem in life. Choose your side! Peace. What did I always want to be...ummmmm I always wanted to be a Singer/Musican when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a far fetched idea. As it turns out, they were crazy, I shouldn't have paid attention to them. I'd be a Rock Star right now if I had followed my instinct! My favorite way to unwind is Reading a good book. That is my public answer, but there is only one way to truly relax (1 vowel). As far as work goes, If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a level of freedom , an atmosphere of collaboration , and breathing space to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My heros are ... My mother and grandmother are my only hero's I have. They worked har...Expand for more
d and sacrificed their lives for me. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Nanette Fairow, because I miss her! I hear she is doing very well and I'm so proud of her! My children have taught me a lot but the one thing I've learned is that they come into this planet as unique individuals with their own plans and they fulfill them whether you agree with them or not. If you learn to let go that's not such a bad thing, because they end up making you proud. If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to Ray (my companion)and my kids, then spend the rest on helping others , traveling and I'd like to build a wholisic wellness center. No,I never lived on a College Campus, and don't want to at this point. In my earlier years I spent time on Hurlbert Field AFB in Ft. Walton Beach Florida with my Ex-husband. Loved it, but wasn't to fond of him at the time. However we get along pretty good now. My current age is 43. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old . I was so completely wrong, we are just hitting our prime!. My best friend would tell you I can be very withdrawn, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as extroverted. Hell,no! I don't dress anything like I use to. I use to show it all. Now I don't do that, except for clevage, there is nothing wrong with great clevage. Currently, I share my home with Jordan/daughter, which I find amazing and frustrating. In 10 years, I hope to be alive. I'm going to get there by breathing. Yvette Young is my oldest friend. We met when we were 3 or 4 years old. I think we clicked because we were both small and wanted someone to play with. My first job was at Kmart , where I got paid very little to stock shelves. What I remember most about it is that I went in too early in the mornings on Saturday and Sunday. I'll never forget being 10 years old. I was on a swing, swinging and I said to myself "it doesn't get any better than this". So far swinging still gives me that feeling.
