Marianne's Story

March 2023 As things get more back to normal life goes on here. I still love living in San Diego, no plans to live anywhere else now. Dancing has become a weekly thing with me. meeting with friends at my favorite place on the weekends,,dancing to the music and enjoying time with friends. kids are busy. oldest grandson is now a freshman in high school, played water polo in the fall, now back into baseball mode playing on the freshman team. youngest is in little league so he's playing again. both boys here are into baseball thanks to mom and dad. Still try to get to Tennessee to visit my daughter there. Managed a trip during the Christmas o]holidays again Still trying to decide when and where I might go next since my last trip was cancelled due to covid. I did a little side trip after spending time with a friend in NoCal last spring. Went to Yosemite and Sequoia on the way home. nice little getaway all by myself, never went to either before and since I drove I had the time to do it. Still trying to stay healthy and safe. Life June 2020 This coronavirus pandemic has really thrown us all in a loop. No getting together with friends, very little social interaction, social distancing and facemarks when going out and about, if you are so inclined. I'm so tired of this but see no end in sight. This will certainly be a year to remember. Hopefully everyone in managing to get by without catching it. I'm trying to stay safe here. just walking the neighborhood and keeping my distance from everyone. a few visits with daughter and her family, always keeping in mind to stay 6 feet away or wear a mask. Take care everyone and stay safe. January 2020 Life is still going good for me but there were a few changes, no more man in my life but that's ok. I'm Having a great time with my friends, going out dancing and just getting together. My youngest daughter now lives in Nashville so there will be more trips there in my future. I've got a big trip planned for later this year, Australia and New Zealand with a stop in Fiji. Last year I managed to do 2 cruises. The first through the Panama Canal, on my own. The second to the Mexican Riviera with friends, that one was a blast. 2 trips to Nashville to visit family and stopping in Colorado after the fall trip to visit mom and sister Hit the fall colors in Aspen. . Christmas was spent in Nashville with family. Managed to get tickets to the Grand Olde Oprey at the Ryman so I did a girls night with my daughter. It was certainly interesting. Who knows if anyone interesting is playing there I might just grab some tickets and head there again. Still love living in San Deigo and don't plan on moving again anytime soon. Novemeber 2017 LIfe is good, I've done a bit more traveling, Alaska, New England, Nashville, and trips to Phoenix to visit my daughter and family. I guess you can say I've adjusted to my new single life here in San Diego. I've been busy going to meet ups, making new friends dancing and just enjoying whatever comes my way. I do have a man in my life now, unfortunately he lives in Nashville but we've been able to get together quite a few time ins the past year. Just taking things as they come for now. sorry to have missed the reunion but the timing was off for me. It looked like everyone had a great time. March 2016 Life definitely goes on. The travel bug has hit and I've made several trips in the last 2 years. Portugal, a cruise from Lisbon to Rio and iguazzu falls with a friend. A cruise to Alaska on my own, a trip to New England to se the fall colors, and a cruise to the western Caribbean both as a single. I've also been to Colorado a few times to visit family. My youngest daughter moved to Phoenix in June so there have been a few trips there to visit. Will be heading to the Grand Canyon with the whole family this month. I've also got another Alaska trip planned for May, going solo again. Luckily my oldest daughter is still in town so I see her and the boys often. All of the boys are getting big. Jay is in a computer magnet elementary school, the first in the country. And is now into robotics, he is in second grade, he's also into baseball, so there are many little league games to attend. His brother is 2 ½ and such a cutie, knows the alphabet and can count. Surprised me when he named all the Star Wars characters, talked, and sings a lot. The twins are in kindergarten now. Doing fine, I do wish they were still in town but Phoenix is not to bad to get to, minus driving through the desert, which is much better than driving through LA. Life is good in San Diego. So glad I moved here. I've joined a walking group and walk almost every week at Shelter island. I also joined 2 Meetup groups that get me out and meeting new people, lots of happy hours and dancing there. Started dating again, boy is it different from when we all were younger. Time will tell what might happen there. October 2013 My latest grandson was born on September 19, NIcholas Andrew. Love living in Beautiful San Diego. It now feels like home. LIfe is good. July 2013 Well the boys are all older now, the twins just turned 3 and Jay turned 5. Oh yes, there's another boy on the way, due in September, Jay will be the big brother. I'm enjoying my new life in San Diego. I'm now starting to get out and do more, Making new friends, going out and enjoying life. My house is now complete, well maybe, there's always something else that could be done but it looks good. All painted, insulated and shutters back up. The front has some grass now,(artificial of course). I did buy myself a new car this year, Another first for me. Last October I took a trip to Italy with a frien...Expand for more
d. We spent 3 weeks touring around Italy. Had a very good time, enjoyed the food and the wine, and lots of walking,. I did take a nasty fall on my birthday this year, broke the hip, ankle and arm but all is healed now, but I will set off the security buzzer next time I fly, 3 screws in the hip. That's what I get for chasing a 2 year old, no more of that for me. So life is good and getting better. July 2011 I love living in San Diego, near my girls and the grandkids. Jay is now 3 and quite the little boy. The twins are 1, walking, playing and just a joy to be with. i'm making new friends here and getting on with life alone. the best thing I did was move to be here with family. I took a trip to Greece in May with a group, what a nice way to get away, Greece is lovely. Just what I needed, but great to get home. I also stopped in Paris to visit with my cousin and Aunt. I hadn't seen them since the mid 1980's. I still have a few things to finish up with my house down here on the outside, paint and/or stucco, and some trim work and front yard landscaping./clean up. I Ran out of steam but will probably take care of that in the fall when things cool off. December 2010 I'm in my house in La Mesa, Ca. (San Diego area) slowly moving in and getting things organized. Starting a new life. The twins are doing great, and my other grandson is great. I love being near them. I hope to start enjoying life in San Diego, once I get moved in and the house ready for the holidays. I hope everyone has a happy holiday season. this year will be bittersweet but life goes on and I will make the best of it. November 2010 It's been a year of good and bad. My daughter had twin boys in june.. We headed to San Diego to help out and ended up staying longer than planned. My husband's health took a turn for the worse and he passed away in August. He fought a long battle with Cancer and was able to see the boys and our daughters that last month. I'm now in the process of moving to San Diego, bought a house that is almost ready. I should be in before Christmas. It will be a new start for me. If anyone is in the area please contact me and we could try to get together. I'd love to hear from anyone I knew way back when. You can now find me in Facebook. February 2010 Family came up for Christmas this year, Jim wasn't up to traveling. We both Enjoyed having them here for a change. My youngest is now expecting TWINS in July. We are both looking forward to that event. Hopefully we'll know the gender later this month so Mimi can start getting things for them... Jay now calls me Mimi so that's what I'll go by. July 2009 Our grandson Turned 1 year old in June, he's a real cutie, and has quite the personality, a good little boy. We enjoyed our visit with him and the girls, spent Father's day at the beach in Dan Diego with Alisa's in-laws, ( quite a group but fun) the whole family was there. I'm Hoping to move there when the economy settles down so we can sell and buy down there. I'm still taking things one day at a time, that's about all we can do at our age. April 2009 Retirement is going well, but I think I need to find something to occupy some of my free time. Both of us are home now. Jim retired in December, not planned for then but you know the economy. Now it's adjusting my schedule to having him home. Little Jay took his first steps alone, he's been walking around furniture for a while, and still prefers to crawl, it's faster, but that won't last. May 2008 update Things are good here, My husband is responding to his chemotherapy, things are stable. I will be retired come the end of July. June 2008 update My oldest daughter, Alisa, delivered a handsome baby boy on June 16th at 1:20 pm, in San Diego. 7 pounds 1 ounce, 19 3/4 inches long. Baby and mom are doing fine. They are home now trying to get used to each other. Daddy Mark is very helpful and supportive. Jay's a real cutie. I/we plan on making many trips to see him until we finally move down here, maybe next year. My husband Jim will be retired come the end of November 2008. Retirement here I come. I am officially retired as of the end of July, 2008. After working as a computer aide for nine years part time I changed jobs and I'm now working full time as a computer technician (specializing in Macs, not a PC person) for the same school district. I'm slowly learning the PC side of things now, since all the new computers they purchase are now PC. Of course at home we have Macs. Who would have thought I'd be good with computers, I always was one to do things later rather than sooner. My two grown daughters live in San Diego. Both of them went to San Diego State and didn't want to leave there after college, I really don't blame them, I love to go down and visit them. My youngest, Stefanie, was married on May 8, 2004, on the beach in San Diego...What a geat wedding. Our oldest, Alisa, was married in June 2006 in San Diego of course and on the Bay down there. We still live in Northern Califormia in the San Francisco Bay area. One of our favorite things to do here is to go to Napa to taste the wines. We also enjoy the beach, although up here it is a bit too cold to swim. We try to vacation in Kauai yearly, a habit we started after the girls left home. After leaving Virginia, I moved to Denver where I met my husband. We've been in California for about 25 years now and love it. The past year has been tough, my husband is fighting cancer so things are a bit up in the air for us now. He is doing better but it's still a struggle. We just try to do things one day at a time. Enjoy what we have and do what we can.
