Maribel's Story

School Well let's see. I grew up in Los Angeles and went to school there for Elementary, Junior High and High School. Although I was a tom boy growing up, I was also a shy person whom when you got to know everyone liked. I'm an easy going person, I get a long with just about everyone unless I dislike them but other than that I'm a great friend to have. After Elementary I went to Francis Parkman Junior High for 7th & 8th grade in Woodland Hills. I enjoyed going to school out there because most of the people I went to school with in Elem also went there in the school bus. When I graduated from Parkman I wanted to continue my education in Woodland Hills and go to Taft High School from 9th thru 12th grade but my parents wouldn't allow me to go there anymore because it's far. Instead I returned back to school in L.A. where I attended Mount Vernon Junior High for 9th grade then graduated from there. It was cool because some of the students I went to school with at Parkman ended up like me going back to school in L.A. After my 9th grade graduation I attended Manual Arts High School from 10th thru 12th grade "GO TOILERS". I had classes I didn't think I was going to take like "Spanish" class because I figured I already know Spanish "why do I need to take it?". When I walked in there I was so shy and scared because I had no idea what to expect. What I did notice about the class was that the guys were sitting opposite of the girls like if they had some kind of infection, LOL. Let me tell that that class confused the heck out of me because I was wondering what most of those words meant and also how to use certain words properly when speaking. Little did I know that I would meet my future husband Gerardo A. in Spanish class. We were friends that hung out but didn't speak to one another which by the way took him 1 whole yr to speak to me. While attending Manual I got myself into sports: V. Softball. Cross Country & Track and Field. I tried out for Basketball and made the team except that it conflicted because my first game with the basketball team was the same day of my softball game so I didn't continue with basketball. With all the friends I made there really changed who I am now because I'm freely more open, still a little shy and get embarrassed from time to time but it's what makes me who I am. Before my Senior yr at Manual Arts my parents told my sister and I that we were moving to another city I thought it was far away "South Gate". I went to South Gate "GO RAMS" for my senior year but the track they wanted to put my sister and I in weren't going to start school until Oct./Nov. so we went back to Manual for 3 months until we were suppose to go back to South Gate when school started for us. I was so happy because I got to see my then boyfriend now husband. I was hoping my parents would forget the actual date for us to attend South Gate because if we didn't go when w...Expand for more
e were suppose to go then we couldn't go there. That was what the counselor told my parents. But my dad took off work that day to make sure we went there and not miss our first day. I meet some really cool friends and some were weirdos but I liked who they were. Even though I attended South Gate for a short amount of time I made a lot of friends there whom I somewhat still keep in touch with. So if your one of the many people that have touched my heart and we became friends then look me up and let's chat for old times sake. If I missed anything from what I wrote for each different schools please do so and remind me please. College I attended Community College at LA Trade Tech whom I was surprised to notice that I saw a lot of friends from Elementary, both Parkman and Mount Vernon Junior High School and also from both Manual Arts and South Gate High School there. Took regular classes there because they didn't have the classes I wanted to take. Well that and they were full, so I ended up taking music class "Piano" class, fun fun fun. Didn't stay there too long because I missed my classes not on purpose because after graduating from South Gate High School I found out I was pregnant but I did go until I couldn't. Few years later, 4 yrs to be exact I attended Riverside Community College in Moreno Valley for 2 yrs and took Medical Terminology. Workplace My first paid job was at Wienerschnitzel in South Gate while still in High School. I started working for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center city of Los Angeles working for the Imaging Nuclear Medicine Dept (Temp Pool) where I worked in the back office from 3/96 until 8/1996. All this while I was still living in Los Angeles until I moved to Moreno Valley that same year in August of 1996. Which later on I went back to work at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center city of Los Angeles in the Imaging Reports Dept. (Temp Pool) from 10/97 to 8/1998 which at the same time I was working nights at Club Metro in Riverside from 8/1997 thru 11/1997. Then I started as a Temp at Cedars-Sinai Medical Network Services city of Beverly Hills from 12/00 thru the end of 3/07. Military I have no Military experience but I wanted to join the US Marine Corps but couldn't because I was pregnant with my daughter at the time. I know this has nothing to do with me being in the military so why am I writing here. I will say that my then boyfriend Gerardo A. now husband joined the Marine Corps back in 1994 and is still going strong until this present day. He's a lifer. It was hard for both of us back then but we got through it because of so many deployments. For anyone that has a loved one or friend in the military whether it be: Marines, Air Force, Army, Navy and Coast Guard should be proud of what they do for a living. I'm proud to say that my husband is a MARINE. I have lots of stories from what he told me that I can share but I can't here.
