Marie's Story

Well, I think there are way too many adventures, experiences, and growing up moments to recount in this venue. If you remember me at all, I was rather shy, skipped school far too often by cutting across Acacia park to play foosball with my best friend, Daun, and wore my hair long so I could hide behind it. I was good in everything language based and terrible at math and science. I remember woodsies, the endless cliques that abounded at Palmer (something new to me being a military brat... we were all just "brats" up to that point), the days when smoking on campus was allowed in certain places, kids hanging out playing guitars, and going to hockey games. I remember Mr. Salazar, the creepy driver's ed teacher, and Mr. T, the art teacher to end all art teachers. Oh yeah, and Madame Serna, the French teacher who couldn't speak English. I also remember two wonderful people - Becky and Randy. Last names unremembered, just recall that they were close friends and I loved them both. I think one of the funniest things I ever saw at school was when the senior class (maybe 1977?) stole a scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail and walked into the auditorium in robes, whacking their heads with books. And some guy who streake...Expand for more
d during graduation. Sadly, I didn't see him. Since leaving high school, I've traveled a great deal, lived in Texas for a while with Daun, but eventually settled in New England... who doesn't want to spend all their extra money on heat 9 months of the year?! I write voluminously, garden with a passionate vengeance (trying to beat back winter here is a lesson in futility, however), and paint & draw when I am in the mood. I read endless books, too, and like doing so hanging out in the hammock. I've raised two sons into their 20s, divorced 14 years ago and have never remarried. Now, I live in a little NE-style cape that I am slowly but surely renovating near the seacoast of NH. (You have to keep in mind that the NH seacoast is only about 25 miles long!) It's a labor of love, and is fondly referred to as The Hobbit House. Takes all my time and whatever money's left over from heating the place. I still spend most of my time outdoors, although skiing in NE isn't much fun once you've skied in the Rockies. Ice, rocks, ice, short runs, ice, and long lines, not to mention the price of a lift ticket these days, and the gas to get there. And the ice. Did I mention the ice? So, that's my story so far and I'm sticking to it!
