Marie-Louise's Story

I wanted to be Wonder Woman when I was younger, but I didn't know what you had to do to get that job.So, I've improvised.I don't have an invisible plane, but I ride a motorcycle and drive a convertible. I'm way too fat for my height, but I still have the most fun just living life. Every day is a gift, you know? I didn't go to college until I was 36, and got my BA when I was 40. I never figured out how to be a serious grown up, and I'm still confused about that. I left school and Bristol worked at too many jobs. I drove across the country trying to find myself, and stopped whenever the money got low. I joined the Marines to wear the cool uniform, and got into the best shape of my entire life. I haven't been close to that since then. I was married the wrong guy, but stuck with it, we've were together 21 years, sometimes happy, most times not so much, then he went and died on me in Jan 09 on our youngest sons' 13th birthday. That really sucks, either way. We have 4 really handsome, healthy sons! My jobs, in no particular order have been varied.I've been a bartender, waitress, chefs assistant, hotel front desk to assistant manager, assistant manager of a video store, concert security, file cler...Expand for more
k, poultry gut puller for Tyson, horse stall mucker, welfare worker, welfare recipient, convenience store and fast food worker, substitute teacher and finally ended up teaching reading.I fell into my career because I didn't know what else to do with a BA in English. I had a most excellent professor at Massasoit CC, Susan Martelli, who encouraged me and pushed me, and taught me so much, and then I thought back to HS, and remembered Ms. Gibbemeyer. I learned so much from her too, I thought she was THE coolest teacher I ever had before Susan Martelli.Considering that I came from a Catholic school run by nuns, they really didn't have to do much. But Gibbemeyer made Hemingway and Vonnegut come alive for me.They introduced me to Shakespeare and theatre, and how to really enjoy a story that wasn't a romance novel.I'm not an English teacher because of them, but I'm a better English teacher thanks to them.I am a student favorite, and my own kids think I'm cool sometimes too! I'm living and teaching in Florida, and my life is okay. I hope yours are too.Contact me on msn, use my full name, louisedessertnunn, I'd love to hear from anyone who remembers me. Make me feel famous in my own time, in my own mind!
