Marilyn's Story

Life My maiden name was Groters before I married Mike Peck in 1968 and then I divorced him in 1993. I have 3 Grown Children and 6 beautiful Grandchildren. My oldest daughter Michelle has 1 daughter and 1 son , and works in medicial billing, she has moved to Ohio with her family, My son Michael is married, he is retired from the US NAVY. After his retirement he worked several security jobs until he was hired by the DOD at the Navy yard in San Diego, California. He has 3 sons, My youngest daughter Mindy is working as an MA for a dermotologist, She has 2 sons. So my children have done well for themselves and I am very proud of them all. And I am a very Proud Grandmother too. I like to listen to Country Music and Music from the 60's and 70's. I like to travel and see new places and learn new things about them. I like to go to the live Theater and I have several friends that do live theater. Two of my very special friends are Michael and Jillian Zygo. Michael has his own albums out. And my special friend my cousin Connie. Whom I found by accident in a nail salon here in Mesa, Az. after not seeing her in years. It was a great surprise. She is also from Michigan. So Connie and I spend alot of time together going to the theater together among other things. I drove a special needs school bus in Mesa for the Mesa Unified School District.. I loved my job and the children that I transport... I also drove 40ft buses too. During Christmas I dressed as Mrs. Claus. On May 24, 2005 Mesa Unified School District gave me an Award for "District Employee of the Month" . That is an honor that not many people receive. They choose from a long list of other people and choose just a few to receive it for the month, I was 1 of three to receive it that night. There hasn't been a transportation employee to receive this award in over 16 years. The Superintendent of Schools presented it to me. After presenting it he asked if he could ride on my bus during the Christmas season and I told him sure anytime. I am approaching my 20th year with the school district. I have taken up scrapbooking and have so far finished 1 Memory book for our dispatcher who retired, 1 Wedding Album for one of the young kids at work who just got married, 1 Baby Album. Still working on 1 Military Album for my son and that one is still on going, 4 family Albums still trying to find all of the old pictures to include pictures from high school (boy we sure were young back then). My daughters are also into the hobbie so that is something that we all do together. It is fun and we get time to talk and have some quality mother/daughter time together. People don't know what they are missing when they don't spend quality time with their grown children. I also go to my grandchildren's T-ball, softball, basketball, Jr. Girl Scout and anyt...Expand for more
hing else that they are into at the time and I take lots of pictures for the scrapbooks..and that is what I am doing at this time in my life. I love my life as a single person because I don't have to answer to anyone and I can just go if I want to anytime that I want to without worrying about anyone else. Life is great! I have a beautiful big black dog that is part Austrialian Shepard and German Short Haired Pointer. But he really looks like a big black Lab. He has gone threw obidence classes and he knows who rules the house "HIM". He doesn't let just anyone into my yard or house that is for sure. But he is my buddy and my best friend. I just have to figure out how to get him into the truck to take him for his shots which he just enjoys HAHA. My son Michael works with him when he is home and he is doing alot better now in the who rules the house it is still "HIM". Until Michael comes home then it is a contest as to who is the boss and Michael wins that one. I returned to Michigan to bury my Father. He passed away on August 5th 2009(83yrs.old) just 2 days before my youngest daughter's birthday. It was a very trying time. My son MA1 Michael F. Peck went with me and did the honors of placing the flag(too small) on his Grandfather's casket at the cemetery and folding it with the help of his cousin Jacob Marvin Bair. I was very disappointed with the way that the honor guard was handled at the grave site, but that is another story in itself. I also will go back to see my best friend and newly appointed sister Dee Dee and husband Tony. She has been there threw all of the family things and will always be there. She saw to it that I got to see my Father one last time last Thanksgiving when she sent me tickets to fly back to Michigan. I love you DeeDee and Tony. After returning home to Az. I made inquires as to how to get my Father's military records and guess what I have all of them even his enlistment papers and I am in the process of obtaining all of his medals and patches. They will be put in a shadow box with his Navy Picture and the flag from his funeral. I learned alot about my Father and his time in the Navy, I have also talked to several men that have also done what he did during the war. They are just a fountain of information and I enjoy talking to them at great length. You can learn alot from them and now is the time to do it while they are still with us. So take time to talk to your parents about their parents and the history of the family you will find it very interesting just like I am doing. I moved to Eaton, Ohio September of 2015. Bought myself a small ranch house and I love it and so does my dog. I don't have to deal with all of the snow like in Michigan, we don't get much snow. But I am told that Ohio is due for a big snow storm soon. But until then I love it here.
