Marilyn's Story
After marrying Mike Woollard ('74) in 1980 and being a stay-at-home-mom for our 2 boys and girl, I went back to university in 1991 to restart my life. While at the U of M, I completed a Bachelor of Science in 1996, and a Masters of Natural Resources Management in 1999.
After university, I worked for Mb Natural Resources, creating 6 new protected areas in two years with First Nation support, then joined Parks Canada in 2001 as project manager working to create a new national park near Grand Rapids. I was subsequently accepted into a career development program in 2005. To gain operational experience, I was assigned to Elk Island National Park near Edmonton as its Superintendent. In Feb/08, I completed my advanced French language training during the year I lived in Quebec City, la plus belle ville du Canada! ...Expand for more
I remained in Alberta for five years, returning to Manitoba in 2010 as the regional Superintendent for Manitoba responsible for nine national historic sites and Wapusk National Park. It was a wonderful career focussed on working with Indigenous communities and being the steward over some of our province and nation’s most significant natural and cultural resources.
I retired in 2018 and now am focussed on my lifetime aspiration of developing my artistic talents. I started a business, Twilight Creations, and enjoy the freedom of pursuing my varied interests. I am publishing children’s books with my granddaughter, Juliette, along with making watercolour, leatherwork and soapstone carving creations…all in the twilight of my life.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the 2023 reunion!! It's a wonderful life!
